Max2k NFL Rosters - BETA

Post by quixian »

After struggling through working on rosters based on the Madden NFL 07 rosters, I found a roster database for players created for use in NFL 2k5. These were MUCH easier to work with. So, after just a few hours of work, I have an ALPHA build of these MAX2K NFL Rosters. I am uploading them to FBMax.com now - they should be available in the unsorted section shortly under MAX2K.zip.

These rosters should be accurate as of the last game of the 2007-2008 NFL season. They should already be accurate as to height, weight, DOB, NFL years played, and college, unlike the Madden NFL ones I was working on. I will be adding draftees and updating the rosters to reflect the 2008 free agent moves over the next few weeks (maybe days, depending on my free time) after the draft has been held. I may upload the beta set when completed if anyone else is interested in using 'em - regardless of interest, I'll be using these for my personal gameplay as they're easier for me to work with than the Madden based rosters.

The rosters are brand new and have not yet been extensively playtested. One issue I know of is that the kickers' accuracy needs to be fixed. The accuracy for all kickers was set extremely low, due to the ease of kicking in NFL 2k5.

Not a silly question at all - you will copy the .mdb file into whatever directory you installed MaxFB into (usually C:\MatrixGames\MaximumFootball).

Then, start the game, go to "League Game", and the new league should be automatically detected and imported into the game.

Once the draft is over on Sunday, I'll assign the 2008 draftees to their teams and clean up the free agent list a bit as it's a mess right now.  I'll be shooting for having an updated file competed roughly a week or so after the draft with those changes.

Give the re-downloading a shot, and if it still won't detect the league, just let me know and I can check out the uploaded copy tonight to make sure nothing went awry in the file zipping or uploading process.

Sometimes the mdb files can be finicky, so I'll check if they will open up using JD's MaxFB roster editor or the MaxFB Utility as sometimes opening them in one of those two utilities and re-saving will correct the issue.  Thanks!

I took a few minutes on my lunch to try to figure out the problem.  I removed the league .mdb file from my MaxFB folder, re-started the game, verified it was gone - then, I downloaded the league from FBMax and unzipped to the MaxFB folder, started the game, went to League Play, and it announced it had detected the mdb file.

I have a few theories as to why it might not show up - one possibility is that if you already have a league set up in the game named "NFL" saved it is not going to show up.  You will need to remove those mdbs from the folder, start up the game so they will no longer be detected, then unzip the MAX2k league mdb to the MaxFB install folder, and re-start the game to detect the file.

You can also try the fixes referenced above - you can compact the league mdb file using the MaxFB Utility - sometimes that will fix a file that might have gotten corrupted.  Also, check to see if the file will open in JD's MaxFB database editor.

Finally, if the league file is not being detected after trying the above, start the game, go to League Play, and then arrow thru the list of available leagues.  If a league is showing up with no name (ie, it's just a black screen where the league name should be), just let me know and I will take another look to see if re-naming the league will fix the issue for anyone who is still having problems getting MaxFB to recognize the file.  Thanks!

Got it - that narrows things down a bit, I think.  Let me try re-naming the league file (internally) and re-uploading.  That SHOULD fix the issue.  Look for it on FBMax.com as MAX2k_v11.zip in about 15 minutes or so.

Great - I hope the fixes work.  If not, then I'll have to re-create a league file from scratch and re-import the rosters using JD's editor.  Strange that it's not working.  The file isn't much different structurally than the Madden NFL league file I uploaded a few days ago.  Both are based off of the same league file to save me the trouble of re-creating the league file as mentioned.

In the meantime, I've been squashing a few bugs in the roster file (a small percentage of the players have their stats at zero for everything, I am correcting those as I go thru the rosters) and have already updated the file with all the 2008 offensive player free agency moves, need to do defense next.

Thanks that did it. Can you upload your rosters to www.eamods.com in the Maximum Football section?

lol oh goodie. the NFL is the only thing I have never modded (duh)

Looking at FBmax.com it appears most of it has been done by a few different guys. just not packaged together. I'll see about getting permission from them to bundle it this weekend and add anything that needs to be added.

nothing for the Dolphins except for the '72 uni's I noticed. So there is a bunch of field art etc. that needs to be done that I have seen so far. But for the most part it has been done. just a matter of bundling it all up.
