New Scenario: Forced March

Post by kam99 »

FORCED MARCH

This is a very small infantry only scenario based on a Squad Leader scenario published by Advance Phase. It is set in Russia in 1942.

One of the toughest challenges in learning WW2 tactical combat well is the art of infantry manoeuvre. This scenario pits a German reinforced platoon on patrol, up against a Soviet rifle company on an approach march.

This is my first attempt at a PC scenario and any feedback would be appreciated. I have tested it playing as the Germans, although it can also be played from the Soviet side.

As an aside, if anybody is looking for inspiration for scenario design, check out the following site for Squad Leader scenarios:

Thanks for making this.  I have always enjoyed Squad Leader and Panzer Leader scenarios redone for the 'puter.

I'll let you know how badly my Soviets get beaten up.

What is your feelings on the 1k maps with these scenarios? I know with Combat Mission, ASL (and other game systems) scenario conversions didn't work very well.

Nice scenario - a great small infantry meeting engagement, not many of those! Managed a Decisive as the Germans but was hard pressed at various points. I didn't change placement and stayed on Advance orders until I spotted the first Soviet unit, then it was a dash for the objective and good positions to defend it from. Lost one squad and took light casualties to three others. Starting the Soviets out 50m closer to the village might make this even more tight.

Noticed a few more typos in the infantry model data along the way that was causing a few winter uniforms to show up, I wish I could play without creating more work! [;)]

Thanks for making this! Good job on your first scenario.

Regards,

- Erik

While your question was to RedLeg, I'll give my opinion as well (well why not?). I looked at the scale in the SL and it was looking at about 40 meters per hex, with each turn about 2 minutes - so that seemed to mesh fairly well with PC:K. Works out to maybe 2.5 SL map panels high. The turn length doesn't convert well - but I actually think the rest will convert quite nicely.

But perhaps others may disagree.

I expect to do some more SL conversions
