Book Recommendations

Post by Adam Parker »

On the kind advice of KG Erwin, I'm taking up an invite to drop by this hallowed forum to pick your brains if I may, PureSim purchase still pending [:)]

I'm looking for advice on texts currently in print, that I can pick up on a visit to the States shortly pending:

1. Best 1 volume history of baseball.

2. Best 1 volume all teams coverage.

3. Best Red Sox history.

4. Best Yankees history.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you can pass my way.

Kind regards,
Adam.

Thank you, Adam. (blushing)

As for best baseball books, I did a quick Google search.

One-volume history : "Baseball: A History of America's Game", by Benjamin G. Rader

The Red Sox: "Red Sox Century", by Richard A. Johnson

I don't own either of these, so hopefully some of my esteemed colleagues will weigh in.

However, a volume I DO own is the literally massive "Total Baseball", which was recently updated. It is much more than a reference. Apart from the stats, this tome has many many great articles on the teams and the development of the game. If I were to recommend just one book, it would be this one.

Of course, there are hundreds of websites, but these two, IMHO, are essential:

1. http://www.baseball-reference.com/
2. http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseballlibrary/
