[WIP] Panzer I Series [3d max files etc included]

Post by RyanCrierie »

First up, the good old Panzer IA; "hero" of the Spanish Civil War; then the Panzer IB; star of Poland 1939!

Possible Mods of this:

Panzer I Breda
Panzerjäger I
Flammenwerfer auf Panzerkampfwagen I Ausf A (easy; just replace a single MG with a flamer; only used in one battle in North Africa).

and

15 cm sIG 33

Ended up redoing the hull after I noticed discrepancies in photographs of Panzer Is and my model, I think I got it finally bashed into something about perhaps 80% accurate to the hull...

Now I gotta do the various doodads of the hull suspension....

Here, you can see the Panzer IB under construction; notable differences are a stretched hull and redone rear engine deck.

Thanks Ryan,

It will be good to get the Panzer I into the game.

Panzer IB mostly complete; and a rear comparison shot to show the differences.

You can see how the engine deck and muffler arrangement is all new; and how there is now an additional roadwheel pair -- plus a stiffener has been added to the rear hull.

Now come the variants....[:'(]

Oh yes, they're remarkably devoid of "doodads", like stowage, etc; because I imagine that Stridor, Mobius, etc have developed their own stowage and roadwheel meshes that they can re-use between models; and they probably can do a better job than me of do-dading it up, like pulleys and tow chains...

Image

Poly Count

Panzer IA: 2,436 polys
Panzer IB: 2,488 polys

Of course, most of this is because I didn't "cut" the roadwheels up....I'm sure someone who can handle the tricks of texturing round shapes can get it down to about 1,800 polys each....

That's looking really awesome, Ryan.

An observation and a question, though, for anyone "in the know" about the impact of high poly-count vehicles on the game: I notice when I'm running PCK that my memory usage never goes over the minimum cited for WinXP, 512MB. Is that why modders are being encouraged to keep the poly-count down, to stay within those minimums, I mean?

And here's the 3DS and MAX 7 files for:

Panzer IA
Panzer IA with 20mm Breda (Spanish Civil War Modification)
Panzer IB

Drawings, and some photographs for reference in making the textures.

I looked at the:

FlakPanzer I
Panzerjager I
SiG 33

but decided against them for now; because I need to find some really good reference drawings and such on the various guns, such as the 15 cm SiG, etc, since from looking at photographs and models, the guns were literally full size carriage mounted guns lifted up and bolted to the deck of the tank.

Ryan,

Nice models, but why don't you texture them yourself? Go the whole Hog!

If you follow my MS3D tut you can even animate them without too much effort.

Hello Ryan Crierie.

I was thinking that we needed --specifically for PzGn scenarios-- Panzerjaeger I and then the Sturmpanzer I - "(sf)sIG33" [Bison] -- & "(sf)sIG38" [Grille] -- and 'Stu IG 33' ('SturmInfanteriegeshutz').

['sf' = Selbstfahrlafette = German for 'SP']

In PzC:K stock the sIG 33 I & II is already done in the armour list --it only needs a model (and 'sf' correction to its name). It uses the stock MkII now.

The better 'Grille' ['cricket'] "(sf)sIG38" is on a P38 chassis; entry date 2/43. No stock version at all. Same for the "Stu IG".

I don't know where to begin with modeling so me "thinking that we needed" was all that was happening. But now I see your WIPs here.

Let me know what I can do to help finish them -- and _how I can help to do this_ (LOL) (anyone?).

========
BTW any of the 20mm Breda variants make it to Russia (with Azul div)?

Current Status of the Panzer IA:

I may do some more changes to UVWing and perhaps make the roadwheels fully 3d. [:D]

Update: Still at work on this; I just acquired the Dragon 1:35 model of the Panzerjager I; and will be using it to help detail up the models, especially the roadwheels and suspension. I also acquired a 1:35 Flak 38 model, which I'll use to do both the Flak 38 in ground support role, and for the Flakpanzer I.
