Crawling?

Post by jmikkone »

How come these fine fighting machines we've learned to love as Titans have learned to walk, run, dodge and jump, but they can't seem to grasp the ancestor of all of these : CRAWLING!

I think a titan that has lost only one leg should still be able to move around without having to try to stand up first, albeit VERY slowly. You could indicate this with a yellow 'walk' icon and, say, triple the normal BMT for speed. Turning around should still be possible, naturally.

A little related request : Currently the only way to get your face to the ground is indirectly via fumbling a skill check. Why? I can imagine situations where I'd like to lay down, hiding myself from the sight of my enemy, for example to have calm to repair that Heavy Damage on my heatreg while my teammates keep on fighting. Any possibility for that 'Flat on your face!' icon?

There's an easy way to fall flat on your face whenever you want, but you'll take damage for doing so. =) I'll let you figure out what it is. For crawling, can you crawl at 10kph? The slowest walking speed for a titan is 30kph or so. If you were to try to crawl to another hex, you'd really take forever, and you'd risk getting knocked flat. =)

Actually, I really like both ideas. There've been several times when I'd love to have been able to lie down (gently!) to cool off or repair.
As for the crawling, sure it'd be slow, but it would be so useful to change direction when your leg is off. It could be a life-saver when some sneaky old man is circling around out of your arc of fire to kill you.

Crawling might be a little hard when you have only one leg, and your arms are chainsaws or AC barrels.
As for dropping to the ground, you can crouch which is some help. I don't see how you can drop a 200 ton behemoth to the ground *gently*... the jock should take neural feedback damage whenever the titan hits the ground.
Falling willingly is not that easy, unless you're a rookie. Unless you have a dense woods hex or a swamp or river hex nearby, you'll have to work hard to do it. Even dodging.

Very true, but even a chainsaw or gun barrel could be jammed into the ground to drag you along. (Granted, that would probably ruin the gun barrel, but sometimes it's still worth it.)
For lying down, I was envisioning something like going down for a push-up: The titan crouches, puts its hands on the ground in front of it and lowers as gently as possible to the ground. Although your point about chainsaws and gun barrels seems to make it a little difficult. Truthfully, I'd rather see the crawling than the lying down. Even a one legged titan should be able to change its facing, at the least.

A chainsaw can be jammed into the ground?! A gun barrel?! What about a missile rack? I don't think so. We're not talking just smooth, soft plains here. Such a rule has to apply to *any* condition/terrain. How'd you drag yourself out of a water hex? Or up a hill or pit? Or through a swamp? You get the picture.

Actually, isn't the gun mounted on top of the arm? Perhaps the chainsaws could be retractable.

Hmmm...I see your point, again. Still, I think a downed titan should be allowed to change its facing. Even if you can't pull yourself to a new hex, surely you can thrash and roll to face another direction?

As Lyhrrus said, when prone your facing is either up or down. You can try to stand up and swivel your torso to change your firing arc.
In that line of thought, you should be able to trigger your JPs and slide your way to the facing hex

Of course you'd need a skill check for that, and if you failed, you'd burrow your head into the ground doing major damage and digging your own grave.
