The terror of flamers

Post by LarkinVB »

Is it just me or are flamers packed into a light titan very deady. I was fighting in a random team against two friends of mine (LAN). I had a Stonewall which was charged by a Firedwarf, a 70t light with 5 flamers and a chainsaw. Regardless of the chainsaw the flamers kept my heat around 100C so I rarely could launch a punch are a MG, not to speak of my AC7. Wasn't it for the nearby Fist which saved my Stonewall due to its Tesla 140t would have easliy lost against 70t.

Did you see my doom picture? That was from a medium with 3 flamers, a NB and something else that was trashing my assault. I put 4 flamers onto a light titan, but should probably pack 5 or 6 on. 12.6 heat without a shield is disgusting. Even on a shield hit it's 7 heat. No other weapon produces heat more effectively than the flamer. Of course you need to get close enough to use it, but... given it's a light, be afraid, be very afraid.

My FireRainer Design ( 70t, NM14,nm14,NM7,NM7,NM7 ) is my worst opponent to battle against
Heat can really cripple you, even in frost.
And in Hell it is definitely the one you wont let go too near of you.

BTW with the Heat system, Fire is the great equalizer between AT, just like Neutron or BRG,and even Meson. In fact any system that dont take into account the armor/resistance of the target to kill it is good to equalize. But het is far better cause there is less difference in HR than in other device to cancel effect of the other weapons, and Shield is really useless in this case, cause it dont stp NM and produce add heat when stopping FL.

BTW flamers are perhaps a bit too precise ( after all they are area effect weapons not snipping ) and definitly too light for their damage/power. 7 shoot a tons seems a bit overrated for me if you consider it can range 300meters away.

Some math on shields and flamers :

1. A normal flamer hit against no does 7 damage / 12.6 heat.
2. A hit that bypassed the shield does 7 damage / 2.5 to 8.8 heat ( shield1 to shield6 ).
3. A hit stopped by the shield does 0 damage / 7 heat.

I wouldn't call that useless. Note shields also protect against napalm heat. The problem for my Stonewall was that its shield5 produced 1.2 heat versus his 2.4 reduction from heat regs. That left 1.2 to fight against flamer hit. My enemy did score about 4 hits of 5, bypassing my shield.
Thats 4 x 3.8 heat = 15.2 each volley ( 7 secs ). In 7 secs I reduce 8.4 of it *without* doing anything else.

The problem with the Stonewall comes from its name. It can't move with its shield on. The shield is too oversized for its heat reg.

Flamers are indeed deadly. Nm 14's are also a pain to fight against. However, I think the low damage, short range, very limited ammo more than compensate for their specials. I think they are very well balanced.
