WITP Music MOds/Additions

Post by faraonej »

I really enjoy the military music in the game... I just wish I could add some cuts from my Victory at Sea CD...

My questions are:
1. Is this possible?
2. How would I do this?

THANKS!!!!

It's quite easy, though it takes a few steps.  The music files are 1025.sfx-1034.sfx in the Sound folder.  Take an MP3, rename it to one of those file names and it will play them in game.  The music is chosen at random, so it might be a bit until your music comes up unless you replace all the files.

one last thing... how do i convert the mp3 files to sfx format... I tried playing the renamed sfx files (from the game) in winamp to test this... It didn't work.

Any ideas?

I don't think the sfx files are in MP3 format, but the game engine plays a wide variety of formats.  I don't recall the format of the sfx files, but it's an old format that is no longer used.  I found the sfx files play with VLC, which is an open source video and audio player.

I didn't change the suffix, I just clicked on them in Windows Explorer and told explorer to associate that file type with VLC.  I tested the game engine with MP3 and WAV files and they work fine, though the suffix needs to be changed to .SFX.

All you need do is drag the sound clip to your desktop, rename it to SFX, place it i your sound folder (at a sound address of your choice)..The longer the clip(in seconds), the greater the chance you might not hear all the other songs.
I have experimented and Victory at Sea long ago became most of the songs in my games.
Spooky's website has some of those clips already re-named for you..

Unless the code changed before I got to it, the only sound file names that will work are 1025.SFX to 1034.SFX.  That's what the code that plays the music is looking for.

It would be nice if AE would increase the number of songs playable as background.  Leave all the original music in and still get to add themes from Final Countdown, Gettysburg and A Bridge too far.  It would be nice to play the Star Wars Empire theme when KB is sighted.
