Vista Premium 64 and Autoload

Post by Hobo55 »

I started a topic and string attached to Matrix's new game Commander Napoleon at War re compatability problems in running the new game when Napoleon in Italy, Libery and Steel Panthers WAW do not work. Lets pick NII to see if we can get it to run. I understand that Matrix runs this game on a Vista64 computer. I have tried to tweek mine without results. I have set compatablity to run in Windows XP 2nd. also played with my video card with no results. The program loads to the point of going to the game map. No map. At one point the map did appear but you couldn't do anything. Windows 'window' advises that the game needs autorun.

1. Do I need autorun?
2. What exactly are the settings on the Matrix 64. Windows XP chosen, what boxes ticked if any. what display settings.

I still do not believe that the game is running on Matrix 64 system maybe a 32? Therefore I am not willing to buy the new game. Giving me 5 games that won"t run. There is an old saying about fooling me once. Right now I feel like an idiot.

any help folks will be much appreciated.

I've got this game running on Vista32 and had the problem of no game map. I had to check "on" the "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition" boxes you'll find in the shortcut's properties as well as running in Windows XP compatibility. Once I did that it worked fine using the game's default screen resolution.

Thanks for the info: I adjusted my system as you suggested and the map came up. However another problem has arisen re getting anything to move. I click on an army and after about 5 min. the move symbol comes up but when you click to exercise the move nothing happens. Its seems like the system is locked or extremely slow. I have as earlier noted a Vista64 Quad4 6600, with 4 gig's of Ram. An Nvidea 8500 card with 512 ram.

What about this auto run? or any other suggestions. We seem to be getting somewhere with the compatability adjustments.

Are you running off a removable flash drive or CD? Autorun, as far as I know (and I'm certainly no big expert on this stuff) is a feature that automatically starts an exe on the removable media or a player when the flash drive/CD/DVD is inserted. I can't think of anywhere else its used.

As far as the long delay between selecting a unit and then its ready to move, sounds like some resource the program needs isn't being made available too quickly.... like something else is using it. You might have something running in the background that's making it difficult for NII to get the resources it needs.

Again much appreciate the imput.
You could be right on autoload. I am running the program off my hard drive. Its just that a window keeps popping up when I close the game stating I need autoload. I wouldn't think so If I am using the system main hard drive.

I have a clock showing on my desktop the Ram usage as well system commitment or something. When I load the game I make sure that nothing is updating itself. All seems quiet.

Maybe someone at Matrox that has the Vista64 system could respond on their settings. I have loaded Blizzard's Diablo and Warcraft. They both work fine. M$S$ Flightsim works (it should since its an MS game) The only trouble I seem to have is on Matrox games. At this point none work. I wish now that I had chosen the Vista32 like you.

Let me clarify: The program is Autorun not autoload. It seems like it is a Microsoft program that is missing. I downloaded MS Autoplay and Autorun same thing now the game won't load. This is very frustrating. I'll wait to hear from a Matrix person with the 64.

The sluggish response you may be able to fix by lowering the framerate on the Options screen. FPS 12 is still enjoyable in my experience, below that it is playable but a bit jerky.

Let me know if this helps.
