Hitting the reinforcement button changes the units in the forcepool from what you currently have to what is in the fpool for the day when you hit the button. You should only reinforce if your BG has been battered/knocked down.
The reason for the above scenario is that the forcepool is used for 2 purposes in the game.
1) For single battles and for when a BG enters a campaign its available units are based on the forcepool for that given day/turn
2) For reinforcing BG's on a given day/turn. Most mod makers tend provide probably 1/2 the total units available to a force at the starting date and the other half as reinforcements.
