English AAR, for a while at least

Post by Hard Sarge »

okay, wanted to do one from the English side, they got a lot of good stuff going for them, but, got some issues too !

made it simi short, as I do not know how long I can spend with it

settings are standard Campaign, normal and normal def level, Advance Ecc

have given the Turks and Swedes +100 Glory

as the English, my early main goals are to bottle up the French and Spanish Fleets, mess with the French with out getting into a toe to toe fight

my Strength is I got a Good Navy, and a Small, but good Army, now to try and max on that idea, bad part is, I don't really have any land, and to take land, you need land

okay my Ecc at start
I have cut taxes (hoping my Mechants will bring in enough money, so a tax cut will keep the people happy)

cut and lowered my Age limits for the draft, I want good troops, I not going to need as many as the other nations

some touch up on my provinces, I am gambleing on food, I got enough in stock, and a little over what I need, also not growing too many Trees, as the English, I am going to be taking enemy ships, most of those taken, get sold for Timber, so planning on making my Timber from combat

trying to max Labor, Iron, Spice and Lux

I am not a good trader player, so will tend to stay away from that, but will pick up a route or two, looking to see if I can pick up some of the things I am weak on

so with that in mind, I move my forces, try to made a treaty with Prussia, bring them into the war, the more the merrier, France and Spain are friends, I am at war with them, along with the Ossites, Russia and Sweden, next month I will try and bring Turkey into the war also (normally, I try to get Turkey and Russia into a War, but this time, I need the Russians for my plans)

right off the bat, the battles start, the Spanish and French Fleets set sail, and run into Nelson

just a little bit outnumbered, 55 for them to 28 of me, but I am good and got good ships, they got good ships, but poorer crews

prebattle plane as set up by Nelson, hammer the Spanish and any small ships, know there Frigates out of the battle

a Early Crit, going to need lots of damage in this battle

Large fleets are a pain to control, they going to sail into each other, and most times either block off parts of the fleet, or sail out of the battle area

(ships can sail too close to each other and foul, ships are really bigger then the hex they are in, so while the hex may look open, you can still get snagged)

helps if I post the right snap !

bottom of the screen you see the details of the volly, I just fired, top box, shows how that damage was taken, plus the crit hit damage (needless to say, the numbers do not match, so I have been firing on this guy before I took this snapshot)

okay here is a zoomed out view of the battle so far, start of the 2nd round, I have taken some damage, but not as bad as they have, also you can see I am getting my Frigates out of the way, while the Enemy has theirs right in the middle of the battle, small ships do not stand up well to big ships, they are best used to pick and snap, hang around the outside of the fight, they can do some damage, but you don't want anybody shooting at them

also, you can see, I don't know what is behind the enemy fleet in the south, that is blocked, there are alot of ships in this battle

hmmm, fancy coding for my snaps and I keep screwing them up !!!!

ahhh

one of my ships has fouled with the enemy, it don't matter who causes it, they both suffer, I am locked in place, not a good place to be, I got a enemy on my bow, and on either flank, with a BIG Spanish SOL of coming up

but that still works both ways, I am on the bow of a enemy ship and have at least one of these ships locked in place, and I got a few SOLs coming into range also, a good trade off, as long as you are not one of the guys on the fouled ship !

ahh, the ship from the opening round, as you can see, this ship is hurting, no hull, little sail (of course, with out a hull, all the sails in the world are not going to be of much help) rudder gone and there morale is shot (hehe, get it)

as I said, I want to hammer this small ships early

now, one thing you can do in battle with your action points, is to try and repair battle damage, I now have 3 fires going on this ship, I put one of them out, most times, it is a HARD choice, do you fire or do you repair, this time, I am kind of out of firing postion, so go for the repairs, fires ruin rigging and morale

besides the good stuff a SOL can do, it also costs a ton, any and all that I can knock out of action for good, will hurt the enemy, they are HARD to replace

if you can see that red line in the middle, another of the Spanish SOLs has Grappled with one of my ships, not a good thing, the SOL has a large crew, and can take over mine with a boarding action,I need to change his mind
