Mid-Late War IJN Carrier Loadout Question

Post by TommyBoy84 »

So in my boredum at work, I was reading random threads from the past. One thing that particularly startled me was somebody's unanswered question on whether or not later Japanese Carriers (Unryus, Ibuki, etc.), if accelerated, will arrive without aircraft if Jills, Judys, and later Zeros haven't reached their arrival date.

This sparked two questions:

1.) If I accelerate the IJN carriers, will they arrive empty if their default aircraft loadout hasn't reached their arrival date yet?

2.) I know new land-based Japanese air units come out of the replacement pool when they arrive, but do carrier wings initially come out of the replacement pools as well?

you´ll have the new model of aircraft and the carriers will arrive with them, therefor I guess carrier based ac are not drawn from the pool when the carrier arrives...

Answer to 1: No, they arrive with their default aircraft, but there are no replacements until the aircraft are in production.

This was discussed within my AAR just recently.

We will get Taiho, Unryu, and Katsuragi in mid-1943.  We'll also get Chitose and Chiyoda at that point too.  These CVs will come with M5, Judy, and Jill.  I plan to use those planes for my best Daitai by downgrading the new CVs air groups to the older models and having them train while the new models are being used by better pilots.

Early CVs arrive can arrive with aircraft that are not yet available. I downgrade mine to whatever is in production (ie A6M5 down to A6M3a) - to do otherwise would be gamey in my opinion.
