Organization (again)

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Organization (again)

Some further organization questions:

1. Can you freely assign/re-assign units to HQ's? If I want a Pz. Div. transferred to another Corps HQ can I do it?
2. Will there be the ability to create HQ's?

What I'm getting at is, will you be able to create ad-hoc groups for specific missisons, etc....as in creating Army Group A, for Case Blue, or whatever. During the war, the Soviets changed names for their "Fronts" several times...will we be able to do that?

Well you can re-assign units but not freely, there are administration points that cost you for certain different actions...As far as new Hq's the Soviets can, but agian at a admin cost...I'm not really sure about creatng Army Group Hq's, but the Soviet Fronts auto name change to reflect history...

Thanks for the reply. OK, I know you're still testing, but here's what I'm gathering from what you're saying:

CAN'T DO:
As the German player, I can't create a new army HQ and assign existing or new units to it.

CAN DO:
As the German player, I can take existing corps and divsions and re-assign them to an existing army HQ.

Another question (sorry)...are there Army Group HQ's?

OK, thanks again!

Quick question on name changes.
As both German and Soviet AG/Fronts have name changes throughout the war, will there be "dead" Hq's waiting to be used? For example, AG North, Center, and South are pretty standard, but South disseapears in 42-43 (?) and the area previously covered falls under 2 AG HQ's that previously didn't appear on OB. One can be covered under name change, but the other? Will it come in as reinforcement?
Is it possible that some HQ's will disband/reform on historical timelines?
And there is a potential hornet's nest waiting for the Soviet side, as some HQ's are disbanded/reformed/renamed several times...
Any info you have is great...

Yes

There will be balance between historical accuracy and simplicity. But Soviet player should be ready for all the reorganization took to the Corps/Army/Front HQ's, i.e. Rifle/Mech Corps will be dissolving through the 1941, Fronts will change there names, get unfrozen, etc.

Great answers! WIR is already beaten.
Any idea how the Sov rebuild of destroyed units will be modeled? And will they always rebuild? I think I saw that on another post but don't remember where now...
Just to clarify: there will be "frozen" HQ's that come into play later (already on map), or will they show as reinforcements at a predetermined loc?
Will all German units rebuild if destroyed?

BTW that is one disturbing pic. What the heck is that thing?

It would be cool if we could have an LCU thread to keep all the ???'s on LCU's together...

Thanx for your time and effort. I am looking forward to playing this on the other side of my vacation in Iraq. [8D]

It's manual process for the Soviet player.

Both
Will all German units rebuild if destroyed?

Player will have a choice to rebuild all units, with given amount of resources.
BTW that is one disturbing pic. What the heck is that thing?

Current unit highlight scheme does great job showing the command structure (even without hiding ).
