Guadalcanal bombardment results

Post by emorbius44 »

I've hit this base (as Japan) with a couple of BB task forces and a couple of CA task forces. Bombarding just seems to affect ground units and hasn't done a thing to Henderson field. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes but we have FOW and they do not seem to do anything like the damage they did in the old WITP.

When the japs sent there BC in and shelled Henderson field during the war they had a guy with a radio giving instructions.

Yep, can attest, if you know about the target your results are much better.

Recon, recon, recon...

Ok, then I have the following questions:

1) Why do air attacks (even night attacks) display runway hits, supply hits, aircraft destroyed, etc. and naval bombardments don't? Even if they are variable due to fog of war they are hitting something.

2) Bombardments seem to target ground units and are leaving the air field alone from what I can see. "The bombardment" the famous bombardment attack using Hiei and Kirashima, caused 39 deaths (in line with game results) but almost obliterated Henderson field. The air strip was the priority target for all the attacks the Japanese made coming down the slot. Right now I'm throwing a series of bombardments with a couple of BB's or 5 CA's and creating 15 or 20 casualties and leaving the airfield alone and focusing on ground units from what I can see. Am I wrong?

P.S. I am doing recon

Simple... bombers typically took photos of the target as they were leaving (bomb damage assessment photos). Naval bombardments at night were unable to do so...

EDIT: try bombarding a different airfield. After all, AE was created by "Henderson Field Productions"... perhaps they placed a ban on destruction of their namesake! [:'(]
fair winds,
