Pilot training system leaking pilots, badly

Post by erstad »

Here's what the pilot pipe looks like at the beginning (this isn't my game, I just started a new one under the public beta. If it matters, my game started with the initial release and is now running under public beta)

Here's pilots after one month from my PBEM. Note the pipeline has shrunk pretty much across the board.

Here's pilots after two months, also from my PBEM. Pipe has shrunk again. The total IJA pipe is down 150 pilots(!) just for this month and the IJN pipe is down 132 pilots.

I haven't had a chance to verify this, but I wonder if this is new with the public beta. I did a test of the training system with the first release and it's my recollection that the number of pilots received in January was close to the 150/185. I won't swear to that, though.

Are you referring to the figures under the 1-3,4-6,etc?

At end of each month, trainees in each month move along to the next month.
The guys in the last month get added to the pool.
A number of new trainees appear in the first month.

Right, I understand that but if you total across all the months for either of the pools, the total is going steadily each month. If I'm putting in (IJA) 185 raw recruits, and getting out 155, and the total pipe is down 150 pilots, then 185-155+150 = 180 pilots have disappeared. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some lossage (training accidents) but this is like an entire month's worth of pilots was lost in a month.

Am I missing something?

Did you have any messages in Ops about 'Accelerated training'?

Do you have a save from end of the month so I can track the month change?
[The movement of pilots happens on 1st on month from memory]

Loss to accident, drop outs, etc seems to be a random value per month up to 20% of the pilots in the monthly cycle.
I think I meant it to be a random value up to 2%.

[BTW Nothing has been changed in this area since original release so I can't explain why you got better results pre-patch except for randomness.]

Thanks for the explanation Michael. Will the % figure be dropped back to 2% for next patch?

Here's the 1/30 save (2 day turns, so this will go to Feb 1)

I'll PM the password

It has missed patch 1 cutoff.
Will be in patch 2.

Patch 2[:(]

This one seems critical, in 6 months the Japanese could lose 60%-80% of their replacement pilots!!!

Please consider to put this fix in patch 01.

Any chance the patch 2 could restore the missing pilots? I've probably lost around 600 pilots so far, and would have to put my PBEM on hold before flipping another month and losing another 300 or so. It would seem a little back-calculation could figure out how many were lost based on the game date; this could be a one time "add back" similar to how the OOB changes are a one time update.

Well in 6 month they would on the average loose 1-(0.9^6)=46.9%
More interestingly, in the twelve months it takes to train them, 71.8% of the pilots would drop out (hopefully not due to death), so instead of the 150, only ca. 42 would graduate.

With the supposedly correct max 2% we get an average of 1% per month, so 88.6% would survive the training (seems still to be quite deadly).

Well, this would include washouts as well as casualties. So it might not be too bad.

Of course, we don't know that the average is 1%, but lacking any better info it's a reasonable guess.
