Mine clearing enemy bases - All MSW get sunk by CD guns

Post by Cavalry Corp »

Sent three small MSW to sweep Lunga , net result all instantly sunk by the CD guns

So this is the same as WITP, automatic detection , at night three small ships - all sunk

Kind of like Galipoli. Very unsporting for the CD batteries to fire on those lowly minesweepers. All they want to do is clear away your defenses! [:D]

Thats ok but these ships are not firing at the shore and are small, they should at least get detected DL of some sort

BUT should I expect them to all be sunk everytime and what is the counter solution. It would be a bit wrong to say put a BB there to absorb the fire.

Keep in mind that in AE, the minesweepers (not the coastal minesweepers) will sweep the hex they are in as well as the 6 surrounding hexes.  Try moving the minesweepers to a hex adjacent to Lunga.

Edit:

AM = Minesweeper - sweeps 7 hexes
AMc = Coastal minesweeper - sweeps 1 hex

Pgs. 136-7 in the manual:

6.6.2.1.1 MINESWEEPING.
Regular minesweeping TFs may be created both by a player and by the AI. When the AI
creates a Minesweeping TF, it may only include ships of a valid Minesweeping class. Regular
minesweeping TFs sweep 7 hexes; the hex they are in and the six surrounding hexes.

6.6.2.1.2. LOCAL MINESWEEPING.
Local minesweeping TFs may be created both by a player and by the AI. When the AI creates a
Local Minesweeping TF, it may only include ships of a valid ‘Local Minesweeping ‘ class. Local
minesweeping TFs sweep only 1 hex, the DH. The AI will position Local Minesweeping TFs to
defend it’s major ports, if ships are available.

Thanks! I'd missed this.

Mike,

Being one hex away does not help. If you try and sweep the mines from one hex away, the CD will still fire and wipe out your minesweepers.
