BoB 41 AAR HS vs Dixie new OOB replacement AAR

Post by Hard Sarge »

okay, as I said in the last one, we had issues, getting the turns out (school and work and mistakes)

so, we decided to restart our game, since his Classes are over and my work load is slowing down

soooooo

BoB 41, full game, I am the LW, Dixie is the bad guys, we useing the newest OOB I post last week

may as well, give some back ground into this battle, if you don't know or follow

it is 1941, both sides have improved there Aircraft and expanded there numbers

for the LW, I still got some 109E-4s, my main fighters will be the 109E-7s, which are being replaced with the 109F-2's (if the battle last long enough, I start getting some 109F-4s and 190A-1s)

for bombers, I got Ju 88s, He 111s and Do 217s (also got some Stukas)
(the 88 is better, the 111 has been improved and carries a good bomb load, the 217 is a vast improvement over the old flying pencil, it is fast, and carried a good load, only bad thing to say about it, is there isn't enough of them)

the hidden Ace, is the fighterbomber, I have 3 more Staffels of 110s,(6 Staffels and 1 Stab of 110s) which my enemy has never seen me use the FB the way it can be used, plus I got a Gruppen of 109E-7/B to help out

I also got a large force of It units

fighters, I got G.50s, MC 200 and one Gruppo of 202s
don't over look the It fighters, the 50 and 200 are as good as the Canes and the 202 is as good as the Spit, but, they very weak on firepower, just don't expect them to fight there way in and fight there way out, they can hold there own, just not for long

bombers, 20s, 79s and 1007s, some old Stukas and 2 Squadrilla of G.50 fighterbombers (well, fighters with bombs)

overall, 2nd class bombers, weaker then what the LW had in 40, and in morale and replacements, very poor, they can be a strong force, but very brittle

for fighters, the RAF has some left overs from 1940, plus the newer models, the Spit V is just plain nasty (the F-4 will match it, the A-1 will have the edge)

the Canes are at a disadvantage vs the 109s, but the cannon armmed one, will eat up any bomber it runs into

the RAF also has a few Whirlwinds (great vs Bombers) P-40s, Marlets, and Fulmares

at night, they have BF's and Havocs, the night belongs to the RAF, but, it is still safer to fly and bomb at night, then during the day

in the full battle, I need to gain AS, do SD damage and maybe some Terror damage

so, I want to shut down airfields, shoot down fighters, damage factories and RRs and burn out some Cities, which to the good, that means, any day, I can change my targets or my plans, I am not locked into one one type of target, but, Terror is not going to be easy to gain, the English have some good targets up close to the coast, but, most of the good targets are behind London, in 1940, the LW fighters don't have the Legs for those, in 41, they still go short legs, but with a drop tank, it will give them a little more time in the air

which means the RAF is stuck on the Horns, if they pull back out of range, lots of easy, cheap targets close in, if they don't hit the raids early, I can go deeper and still protect my bombers

in the long run, I got numbers, and short range and I have to attack, Dixie, has more then he had in 40 and will be getting more, and he can defend how and where he wants, when he wants, as a wildcard, I got 2 full KGs in Norway (maybe the best use, is as a force in being, then in use, as a decoy, or use them at night)

here are the targets when the battle begins (as far as my Recon knows)

I need to send out recon, but other then the Ju 86, I don't have any good recon birds (and the 86 flies very high, so easy to not get good info)

so, other then getting back info from the bombers, recon is going to be tricky

for me, I like to hit Ports, they are slow to repair, and are important to the RAF

10 Group is going to be hit HARD today (if the weather don't screw things up)

some gambles in there, but again, main idea is to plant ideas into Dixies Head

a little later on, 11 Group will get some work and I am sure 12 Group will be sent up

(which might be a good wish list idea, to add in more colors for the plots)

here is the plotting, not all are shown, most of the rest are either Recon or intruders

well, as I told Dixie, I was worried about the weather for the first day of the battle, and, I got bit in the butt

but them the breaks

kind of peaceful, between us, we had 26 kills, and I counted at least 9 crashes

my gambles in 10 Group area paid off, but my It's couldn't hit the side of a barn at ten paces !!!!!

(of course, got to take that with a grain of salt, it is HARD to bomb though clouds)

disappointed in a 3000 + mission day, but gained a point of SD, upped the Terror by 2000 points, and while didn't do much for the AS, I did do some good damage (mainly in 10 Group)

of course, for day 2, the weather is worse then it was on day 1, so gave the boys a day of rest, moved JG 2, out from the middle and over to the left (that extra 50 miles of range will help)

here is the summery screen after the first day

hmmmm, have never noticed that before, looks like the clouds ruined my intel on the raids, damage shown on the results does not match what I know happened/see on the map

(of course, AirFields are tricky, alot of the damage you see, is the runway, those clear up quick (I know I shattered Manson)

okay, the targets, not much, but it is a start

not much to brag about here, for the losses, but, I did have a Intruder damage a BF, which crashed on landing

would guess those two Defaints, were knocked out on the ground

will say, it looks like Dixie is playing it a little to close to the vest, which, will screw up how I attack, but means I can spead my attacks and timing out more, I think he is lying in wait, for the prefect attack, but he has to kill bombers

but, that is the fun of the deal, work out what your foe is doing, and then, try to use that against them

not sure what I was looking at here, but it looked nice :)

got alot of different types in the air

and in this one, it shows a screw up in timing, my recon birds got out in from of my main raids, lucky for me, I only lost one, and did get some good intel on the area

and for day two, I claim a weather day, so nothing is happening, just resting my troops, and waiting for day three

feelings for day one, is mainly disappointment, but...

I did get away with a couple of mistakes and gambles, so it could of been a lot worse

Dixie missed his chance

well, day 2, was a bust, nothing happened

which does hurt, as I had my targets for day 2 already set during day 1

sooo, got to wait for Day 3

ahhhh, sunlight, and fair winds, the Gods of War are smiling today

raids for today, are going to be a double star burst

Dixie looks to be hoarding his fighters, so that will let me, send out more raids, with fewer fighters

I normally try to send out a KG, protected with a full JG, and some ZGs tossed in, now I can cut the fighters down to 2 Gruppen

hassle with the screen shot, it don't really show you, how many raids are in the air

here is the morning summery screen, we got a lot of planes on both side, ready for action

won't bother showing the target screen, since there were no missions flown

here are the plots

11 Group, the CFAC and Rubber/Power and Airfields are the main targets

10 Group, the AFAC, some power, and Airfields are the targets

later in the day, going to take a trip to the outskirts of London

main raids are a massive Star Burst, everything heads to a main point and then break off towards the target, and since most of the targets are pretty close

the rest of the raids

most of the recon, is trying to find out what I did the first night

and getting better info on my future targets

what I hate about weather, is my decent idea of his night fighters, is totally wasted now, so, my intruders are minor and guessing

my sweeps are more to have fighters in the air, while my bombers are returning home, I don't know where any of his fighters are "really" at, so not going to waste my fighters attacking his AA

just in case, you can tell what should be the recon missions, if you notice the return paths, the recon birds are going to be taking extra photos, along the return path, so, I plot them to give them a little help into what I want it take snaps of

thanks for reading :)

should of zoomed in some of that last shot, to show off the start burst pattern, kind of HARD to work it out from long range

really, it is better when you are short of fighters, a number of raids spread out headed in the same area work better when you have numbers (but I am trying for something else here)
