US Civil War 2008

Post by phoenix110044 »

I am playing as the US in the US Civil War 2008 scenario. The CSA just started to buy french equipment. Will this affect the chances of France Intervening on the US side? If/When the option was available should I accept? (I could use some help at the moment, lost most of CA, the were threatening Chicago, pushing up through CO.) Should I chose to blockage french equipment when the option is open, and if I do does that effect the French intervention as well?

Pheonix110044,

It has been a long time since I played this scenario (not sure why because it was quite good fun) so I am going from memory here.
The briefing lies. You don’t have to worry about the French intervening on the side of the US.

The French will sell arms to anyone but just because they sell arms it doesn’t mean that they will intervene directly.

If the CSA is buying French equipment then you get an option to attempt to interdict it. That doesn’t mean that it will be successful. It might and it might not.

If you decide to attempt it (and we are talking about sub attacks on French shipping) then there may well be a French military response especially if you accidently sink a French civilian liner by mistake. I am not going to tell you what the chance is only that there is one. It is not 100%.

Think about it. The French, not unreasonably, will be very angry if the US sinks a civilian liner. “Oops, sorry”, is not good enough. Committing French military assets in response though is not an action they will take lightly but there will be plenty of angry people urging such a course.
Depending on your overall situation you might want to accept the risk.

Best wishes,
Steve
