Modding programs for PC

Post by eniced73 »

I was looking to create some mods. Seen some posts and tried some things but with no success. I am basically trying to remove the base on the VL flags. I was able to open the .x file and remove the base but could not get it back into the .x file format. I used 3d canvas and it saves as .3dc format and will not export back into the .x format. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

DL fragmotion as per spellir74.  I was able to open the VL flag and delete the base but when I try to save - I can not save as an .x file.  So I hit export at this time and then choose the .x format.  It then takes me to an option screen in which I can choose to save as binary, text, etc...  Does anyone know what options I need to choose?   I tried to leave them at default and the game freezes when the loading progress bar gets to the 'loading units'.  Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thansk.

Spellir does, he knows all the fM settings you need and I am sure will respond to this post shortly.

Export to .X:

menu/file/"export selected" (no mesh needs to be selected!)--
-first window, just press okay.
-second dialogue, "file name" = [name it] and "save as [file] type" = pull down to .dds.

.compressed

.write all frames (important)

.40 frames/sec

Sweet.  That worked for what I wanted to do.

I know I seen some tutorials but I have no experience using these types of modding programs.  I figured some things out on my own by reading the manual with FM but do you (Spellir or anyone else) have any suggestions on where to start as far as learnig how to do some 'real' modding.
