ship-borne choppers

Post by larryfulkerson »

Here's a picture of a chopper attacking an enemy task force at sea. You may be wondering how in the world I got him to "debark" out at sea. All's you gotta do is have some kind of ship almost any kind of ship for it to "land" on and then you can move your ship. I've forgotten to fly him back to land and now he's got insufficient movement points to make the journey back to Norway and I suppose he's found an iceberg to "land" on instead. I thought I'd attack the task force to get my licks in before he destroys my choppers with his boats.

LOL!

Your sure finding enough strange helo business playing that scenario, eh Larry?

I'd have never thought to try landing on various naval units, now I've got to try it! Do you figure this as a bug, or intention by Ralph?

These are obviously solar powered choppers that are capable of hovering for very long periods of time.

I've seen something similar with air units getting stranded at sea when their carrier is withdrawn.

Um........I've seen choppers land on various ships, obviously the larger ones, and I'm thinking maybe Ralph did this on purpose or maybe it's a holdover from the older versions of TOAW. I don't see it as a bug but perhaps a feature. I think it's rather handy to be able to do this.

Yeah, even smaller naval ships can have a helo pad. How would you work that out quantity and size wise? Will this work for any helo unit?

On enemy carriers no less. Ben was outraged when my (modified) Me-110's decided to reconstitute on an empty British carrier.

He just moved off, and I flew home in my next turn. But it was funny.

I think it's a feature, that way i don't have to change it.

you can have helos on aircraft carriers. It is a [desirable] feature.  Just use the naval air icon and allocate helicopters in the TOE. Then you can deploy the naval air unit (with helos) on an aircraft carrier. I like this feature and it is realistic for late (Cold war) era scenarios.
