Why does it perform so poorly? I have a fast PC with 8GB of ram and it should run way better than this considering the level of graphics. Take a look at Sins of a Solar Empire as a comparison, it looks and performs so much better than Armada and I can actually rotate around planets and ships in that game too.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I like this game as well but I do wish the 3D graphics mode was more in line with Sins of a Solar Empire. Strategic turn based mode is great. I can't stand Sins due to real time, prefer turn based strategic mode with 3D battle mode.

Not during just the 3D battles but the whole game has a laggy GUI. No, I don't need to upgrade my i5 750@3.6ghz, 2x5870, 8GB DDR3 PC. I will see how it is post upgrade hopefully today once D2D gets off their butt and releases it.

It runs just fine with my i7@2.8, GTX280, 6GB DDR3. Perhaps som kind of problem with ATI drivers and the game?

Possible. I am using newer drivers since the last time I checked the game out so will see how it is later on when I get the add-on installed. D2D is annoying me because they still have the add-on listed as a pre-order to be released on the 15th and it is the 15th. Just sent them a support ticket and told them to get out of bed and make it available pronto.

p.s. you can get a lot more out of your i7 than 2.8ghz if you OC it. If you have speedstep on in the bios and balanced power setting in Win7 then it will downclock and OC as needed. I disable speedstep theough and set it to permanentyly OC to 3.6ghz. I can get more out of it by upping the voltage but that means more heat and maybe shorter lifespan of the cpu so 3.6ghz is all I need. i5 750 defualt clock is 2.67ghz so if I can easily achieve 3.6ghz then you should be able to do 3.8ghz easily.

OK, installed Supernova and checked it out and it runs fine now. Probably was an earlier driver issue because I remember there was a graphics glitch that isn't there anymore.

I dont overclock until I actually need it. As you said just to expand the lifespan. I havent had any parts breaking for over 6 years. The only upgrade I did was from 280 to 580 and I can run anything on best quality.

It probably OCs anyway and you don't realize it. Both i5 and i7 are meant to OC and down clock as needed. So long as you have Speedstep enabled in the bios, which it is by default, and use balanced power settings it will do just that.If you run CPU-Z and do something that stresses the cpu you can see it OC and downclock in CPU-Z. I use 7-zip benchmark tool and/or Furmark to do that. But you can just run the Win7 Experience Index to see it happen also. I would think your CPU OC to as high as 3.6gh by default because my i5 2.67GHZ would OC to 3.4ghz by default. How it does that is to just change the clock cycles from 20 to 24 and not by upping the bus as I am doing it manually.

p.s. i7 hasn't been on the market for 6 years. I haven't had a cpu fry on me yet and I have been doing OC since around 1998. Every computer I have bought since then I have OC. It saves money for me because I can buy a lower cost cpu and get the same performance as a CPU that cost $100.00 to $200.00 more.
