Question about upcoming expansion

Post by Stormy Fairweather »

As much as I like this game, the sheer scale and depth blows me away, I find it nigh unplayable. There is so much lag when I try to pan around, and the zooming feels as jerky as it does unresponsive. My system is no powerhouse, but I don't think it should lag this badly, even in a fresh game and tiny galaxy it stutters.

So my question is; will the expansion better optimize the code to defeat this, or is the expansion merely extra content that will exaggerate this problem with non-top end systems?

Bonus question - will there be better fuel mechanics? Perhaps private sector refueling stations sprouting up that can service numerous ships at a time?

Hi Stormy,

The expansion should improve performance, but have you already tried the in-game options to speed things up?

Yessir, it seems to have absolutely no effect. Which kinda leads me to think it is merely coding, rather than a graphical bottleneck, but it does seem odd that is reflected in graphical lag.

Heya, Stormy! I neither have state-of-the-art rig and I can play DW relatively well.
My must-do things are to turn off nebulas (believe me, this helps a lot) and using some kind of performance boosting software, Game Booster for example. I play small to medium sized games and the frame-rates are mostly quite good. DW still needs of a lot of tinkering in performance, but hopefully the expansion does this.
Nothing is impossible, not if you can imagine it!

Im sure that most if not all the folks on here meet the minimum system specs, after my old PC was stolen in a break in and i couldn't afford a 2nd hand one let alone a new one i asked the chap in the PC shop if he had any old bits, so after much sifting through dead tech i built my present rig, an AMD 1800 with 512mb of memory and 32bit XP, and as long as i dont go beyond the map sizes meant for 1gig i can run it fine, takes a bit of time to load but good things come to those that wait [:)] ive never tinkered with the gfx options so everything is on the default settings, i make sure i have nothing running in the background, my PC is checked fairly often with AdAware and AVG for monsters and i keep a careful eye on things with Windows Task Manager before i run DW. As long as i stick to my little list of bits i can run DW, so no it is not anything to do with DW, Eric has obviously worked very hard to get DW to where it is today, its not a pop at you but so many people blame the programs there running when in reality its there systems or they think they can max the options and then wonder why things dont work properly.
I would check your system or your ingame options, as i would put my money on there being something wrong with your setup.

Used to have this same problem, gamebooster significantly improved frame rates for me. Still not perfect but about 1000x better than what it was.
