Help in amphib TF composition.

Post by cantona2 »

How can I use the barges the allies can create to help unloading an amphibious task force? I have tried to transfer the LCVP's etc into the amphibious transport but I cant. Does their mere presence in the same hex as the unloading TF grant the unloading bonus?

Thanks

AFAIK allied barges don't give any bonus and they can only be used in dedicated TFs...

The landing vessels that give bonus are (afaik) LCIs, LCI(G), LST, APA, AKA, LSD, LVM, LSM...only once they are empty...

Considering the small capacity of the LCIs i always keep them empty and add them to the amph TF once it's fully loaded...so they will help it with their bonus since the first landing phase and will be helped in their helping task by the rest of the landing vessels once they are empty...

Thanks GJ. So LCVPs and LCM's do not give any bonus at all then?

There is an entire section of the manual that is dedicated to this with exact unload values... it is very helpful.. I am at work, and do not know the page numbers...
Life is tough. The sooner you realize that, the easier it will be.

You can also use them as a task force themself. The barges have a troop/cargo capacity that can be used. They unload in one turn!
When you have small numbers of barges you can put small units on them. I often use them for tank battalions or SeeBees perhaps base forces. You can also use them when landing a marine division. It takes a lot. Or you can divide the division in three regiments and load one on barges, one on APAs and one on other ships/crafts.
One thing you have to notice is that barges are short legged so they have to be nursed by other TFs (follow them).
