Units of measure for resources and oil

Post by garywjamison »

Fellow Gamers:

The game has very detailed information about oil locations and resources. As a historian I am interested in exactly what units of measure are being used. Is the oil being measured in barrels? Is fuel measured in U.S. gallons, British Imperial gallons, or some other unit of measure?

The "resourses" category is more abstract. Are "resources" measured in U.S. tons, British Imperial tonnes??, or some other abstraction.

Does someone have a good book to recommend that looks at oil, resources, and production in World War II. It is my understanding that although the Jpanese were able to get the oil fields running again in the Dutch East Indies, Borneo, and Burma that production figures ran 20% to 30% below the pre-war totals.

It is mostly abstracted, but:

For planes 1 point of supply is used for every 1000 lb of bombload, so it would mean half US tonne. But including AVGAS for operation (and 1/3rd of point used for CAP mission), it gives around 1 US tonne (transport planes takes 1 point of supply per 2000 load). Point of resources, supply, and point of device weight takes 1 point of load.

FUEL is probably also measured as 1 tonne, not liquid volume, as 1 point of oil takes the same space as 1 point of fuel, and it is converted for IIRC 4 points of cargo space (4 tonnes), if transported in barrels. Also ships take it in listed amount of bunkerage.

The best we've been told, to my knowledge, is that the units are 1000 lbs for everything. Agan, as Inquisitor notes, highly abstracted, and then balanced for gameplay.
