Recon units planting anti- tank mines?

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

I don't think things have changed so...

Only engineers (and only certain engineers at that) appear capable of laying mines.

To lay mines (IIRC) right click on the unit (this takes you to the stats page for that unit.

Somewhere in the bottom left is a statement of the unit's current action (with engineers it has something like: clearing mines to front, laying mines to front, and some third otion where they don't clear nor lay mines). Cycle through the options until you get the one you want.

To get recon units that lay mines you need to define a recon unit as being type engineer, or check the recon code for an engineer unit. (see manual for what this code is and where

Check that the engineer unit you select can actually lay mines ("engineer" can, "armoured engineer" couldn't last time I checked)

Some recon units have anti-tank mines, but how they use them is a mystery to me, since as was mentioned, they don't have a mine laying switch. I guess they throw it - the mines have a one hex range. I usually zero out the mines when designing to avoid confusing myself. :)
Retreat is NOT an option.

REMF, that's exactly my point. I know that engineers lay 'mines' but I'm wondering if the 'anti-tank' mine that's listed as a weapon for most recon units is used the same way as a traditional 'mine'. Maybe they do throw them?

Can anybody else clear this up?

The AT Mine is an active weapon used against armor.

The recon units cannot deploy this in a passive, land mine mode.

Two different deals entirely.

The AT mine weapon behaves like a satchel ... but it can only be used against armor.

Meaning it is used like a handgrenade? It is tossed at a tank as opposed to being planted?

In one word: YES.

In addition, it increases VERY much the chances to successfully assault an armored vehicle, when it passes next to you, during its movement phase.

Well darn it! Why not call the thing a sticky bomb instead of a mine and not confuse me? :D
