Playable nations?

Pride of Nations is a turn-based historical strategy game set in the colonial era of the 19th century, where the player takes control of a country and guides it through industrialization, military conquest, and colonization. This release from AGEOD follows such successful historical strategy games as Birth of America, American Civil War, Napoleon's Campaigns, Rise of Prussia and Wars in America.

Playable nations?

Post by Jonathan Pollard »

According to the official features and the demo which I downloaded, the game allows you to choose from only 8 nations. However, on the Ageod forums I've seen reports of humans taking control of countries like China, Greece, Sweden, Belgium, Ottomans, etc. If I knew I could play a country like Abyssinia, especially in PBEM, that would make me much more likely to buy the game.

You can change to any particular nation via a console command - I've forgotten the details but they'll be kicking around the AGEOD forums somewhere no doubt. Whether that makes them 'playable' is a rather different issue; there's a reason for the eight and I'm fairly sure only they have have the historical 'events'. Been a while since I played PoN but I certainly wouldn't even consider playing outside those eight for a fun SP game. Never tried PBEM, but I suppose you might get away with adding a few carefully selected 'minor' nations. Not including Belgium [;)]

Here's what I got when I hit the console key:

Welcome to the A.G.E Console. Type '?' for Help.
--------------------
Quit : Quit the Console
Clear : Clear the Console
RgnCoo#: Alter Region Coordinate # (0 to xxx)
Doodad#: Alter Doodad Coordinate # (0 to xxx)
Doodad: Alter Doodad0 Coordinate
Harbor: Rotate the harbor sprite
Stop: Stop current command
AutoTurn #: Set AutoTurn to this value (0 = Halt)
'AIFlush ON' or 'AIFlush OFF': Set AI Flush On Calc to ON or OFF
ForceDateTo YYYY/MM/DD: Set the date.
ForceEvent <EventName>: Event will trigger next turn.
Tech <TechUID>: Tech will trigger next turn.
NoRetreat <Round>: Prevent retreat until Round+1
SwitchFaction <FacTag>: Switch to this faction next turn.
ChangeFaction <FacTag>: Instant change to this faction (don't host!).
SpeedHosting <0, 1 or 2>: Debug mode only!

Does anyone know where I can get a list of what the faction tags are?
EDIT: Never mind, I found the list myself:

Also don't mistake SwitchFaction with ChangeFaction. Switch allows you to play another faction, but you must wait one turn (the game must process a turn). ChangeFaction is for a quick look to another faction, although the game may prevent you from checking everything, as your turn is stripped of the infos on others factions you should not see (anti-cheat purpose).
