Post by JChamberlain20th »

Hey guys, hope someome can help me. I have the Scorage of war series and after updating to matrix download, everytime I click the exe. to start the game, the game menu come up, When I hit the play button nothing happens. I can click on all other icons on the screen and everything starts as it should. It is just the play button and the game will not start. I was able to run it previously with no problems. I have an Alienware Aurora R2, Windows 8 pro, Intel I5 2.8 ghz, 6 GB RAM, Radeon 5670 HD Graphics in crossfire.

Any help will be mutcg appreciated, I would really love to play this game again.

Are you saying you had the Norbsoft standalone and then downloaded the matrix patch on top of it? If so I recommend uninstalling and then installing just the Matrix version.

This may be a compatability mode issue. Try setting it for XP.

Sometimes loading the Intro music causes the game to not start up with certain computer configurations. Go into the Base/Music folder and rename the following file: SOWGB_Intro.mp3. See if that helps.

Also, the anti virus app Webroot has been known to cause problems with SOW games, so disable if applicable.

Hi Guys!
Have just installed the game after downloading from Matrix and experiencing the same difficulties as others in this post.
Have lodged a support ticket with Matrix however must say having owned the game for several years would expect us to be well past groping around for a fix as suggested by earlier respondents - if I have to revert to Win XP then really a backward step.
I have earlier today installed Silent Hunter 4 and Digital Combat Simulator and in both instances trouble free so thats where the bar is at I'm afraid.
Anyway I'll wait now to see the outcome of the support ticket before weighing up the options. We live in hope.

Please check your log file, Work/SOWGB.log, and see if you're getting this error on start up:

Texture file not found NAME:ScreenSprite at PATH: FILE:SPLASH_NSD_LOGO.DDS

If so, here is a 'Fixed' message that should lead your way:
Ahhh... I got it! Thanks Guys!! I tried it before... but it must have just been the 1.6 patch only that I downloaded... I went to "my products' first not the "registered downloads" section.

Also, you will need to do this:

Right click on the SOWGB short cut icon, select properties, then Compatibility, select Win XP SP3, apply, then OK.

Thanks RebBugler!

The 'fixed' message sorted the problem - go to the "registered downloads" section and download and
install v150 first.
Installed on my laptop running Win7 Home Premium 64bit and all well.

I am having same problem as OP. I purchased SOWGB Anniversary Edition yesterday. I right clicked on the SOWGB.exe file in the Matrix Games folder and under properties it shows a file size of 0 bytes. I have tried several downloads from Matrix games and all have the same results - file size 0 bytes. I cannot find the older 1.50 version of the game. I have submitted a bug report to support and hope they have a solution.

Make sure you're registered with Matrix games. Then re-download through that section once you find your game listed. Do not download through the patches section. Uninstall that previous copy that didn't work if possible.

RedBugler,

Thanks for the quick reply. I am registered. When I go to MyProducts on the Matrix Site, SOWG 150th Anniversary Edition is listed but under the downloads column it states "No Downloads Available". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and have a great 4th.

I have heard of this issue before, it obviously takes Matrix several days to update new purchases to the 'My Products' section. Keep bugging them, it will happen, hopefully sooner than later.

I think I have discovered the problem. The file SOWGB.exe is not being installed on my computer which is running Windows 8.1. I used the same installer that I downloaded from my purchase email confirmation on on a computer running Windows 8.0 and the file SOWGB.exe is installed and the game runs flawlessly. I also downloaded and installed the free demo of SOWGB from NorbSoft and it runs flawlessly on my Windows 8.1computer. Not sure where to go from here since the installer runs fine on a Windows 8.0 machine.

You should be able to run as many purchased games on your OWN computers as you wish, you just won't be able to run MP games between them as the reg code won't allow that. Win 8.1 should also cause no issues. I suggest you uninstall the version on your win 8.1 rig, download from the 'My Products' section and reinstall.

Well. I took the bull by the horns.....wiped my hard drive, did a new clean install of Windows 8, reinstalled SOWGB 150th Anniversary Edition and it ran like a charm.

Well, I won't recommend that as solution for other folks with similar issues, but I'm glad it worked for you and you didn't get gored.[:)]

We appreciate your patience with this...[&o]
