Max speed, ceiling and loadouts.

Post by amatteucci »

Is it possible to link the maximum altitude and speed of a platform (aircraft or helicopter) to its loadout?

Maybe he means something like a clean F-16AM (as an example) can get up to 40K ft and high supersonic but one with 4 AMRAAMs, 2 GBU-31s, 2 pylon tanks, a jammer and a targeting pod struggles to get up to around 25k ft and doesn't go supersonic?

Yes, Tomcat84 got it right.

Aircraft performance is clearly dependent on the loadout, I whish that the game engine/database could simulate this correlation in some way. Even having two sets of stats according to, say, a clean/loaded threshold value (based on ordnance weight) could be good enough, for this purpose.

This is something to look into. I agree 40k feet is a bit too high for a fully loaded plane to be the "default." There was a thread earlier about this. And it would certainly add a bit to the realism factor.

Now we just have to figure out what would "ideal" altitudes be for a given mission.

This would probably require a major update to the database to implement, but I sure like the idea!

We're working on something along these lines but expect it to take some time (and maybe a few bugs along the way). Complex stuff and touching almost everything related to kinematics, fuel consumption, AI, mission planning etc.
