Mortar SP

Another question I'm afraid. In the Head_On scenario playing as NATO, there are some SP Mortar units. I didn't seem to be able to get them to fire anything and left up to the AI they didn't do anything either. What are their ideal targets and am I missing something ? I didn't lose for once though but only got 46% of points; it was my first playthrough !

SP Mortars are short range weapons, try putting 1-2km behind your main forces and either on-call or direct support to a unit. You'll rarely get to see them CB as often enemy arty is well out of range

Check the distances you are trying to target them. As Tazak said, they are short ranged weapons.

They were fairly close to the enemy or maybe too close ? I'll try again next time and see what happens.

if you put them on 'hold' or 'screen' orders it does seem to stop the AI using them

Yes, they should be 'On Call' if you want the Fire Control Center to use them. Otherwise you should be able to give them a fire mission of your own with no problems.
