crash in BoR: !st Punic War scenario

Post by Hrothgar »

Game: Birth of Rome
Scenario: !st Punic War [long version]
Playing as Rome vs computer opponents

Computer
Processor: AMD FX 6100 Six-Core Processor
Memory: 16 GB
OS: Windows 8, 64-bit

I had pressed the button for the next turn, and while the turn was processing, an error message appeared indicating a critical error.

I am uploading the saved game files, but the "Scripts" folder, even when zipped, is too large to upload.

RE: crash in BoR: !st Punic War scenario

I’m not tech support, just a game fan. The AGEOD engine has a long standing issue with crashes if you play too many turns without let up (possible memory leak). I generally try and exit the game after 6-10 turns in small scenarios, 4-5 turns in large games like the full civil war campaign. I then restart the game and can go another stretch before I again have to exit and restart.

If you can no longer open your saved game because of the crash, try deleting the save 1 folder and then renaming the save 2 folder to save 1. You should then be able to open the save file normally and re-issue orders for your last non-crash turn and run the turn again.

Hope this helps, if not I’m sure a dev will be by to help eventually.

Yes, I'm going to load a save and see if it works. I'm just hoping that, if give them info re crashes, they might be able to fix the bug.

Jim,

Thanks for the help. Reloading a backup save got me thru the turn with the crash, and I was able to play the scenario to the end.

I've been trying to remember to exit the game periodically. That does seem to help avoid crashes.
