laurentpsl vs operating (118th turn finished)

Post by operating »

Having a colossal battle with Laurentpsl, we are into our 106th turn, he as Entente (America, England, France, Italy, Portugal), I'm CP (Germany, AH, Bulgaria, Turkey). Cannot do screen shots yet for it's not a decided match. We played about one turn a day for months, the pace has picked up in the last few weeks. Entente has the upper hand militarily, no doubt about it, it's his game to win or lose. He has to get a CP surrender to win, or at least a surrender of Germany or AH to close at a Draw. Russia, Romania, Belgium and the Arab Revolt have all surrendered giving me a leg up on a marginal victory or so, I have no chance of any further victories, only to hold as best a defense as I can till the end (boy do I miss those 16 step entrenchments). He is pushing hard to take Brussels, but time and time again reserves reach the front to save the day, send battered units to the rear for refit, sooner or later he should take Brussels, but still will be a long way from Berlin, I'm sure he realizes that. So now he is pushing at my lines south of Strassberg to the Swiss border. His airforce is at the upper limits of techs, don't have a chance of countering it's power. He has finally pounded his way just short of Zagreb and is trying to get over the Austrian and Italian alps to close on Nuremberg and Munich, I have double lines of trenches going from the Swiss border to Veinna, then south from there to the coast west of Zagreb. Will post again later..

Can you reveal your income/expense balances, or are those closely guarded state secrets? [;)]

Is the Allied air power starting to feel like a bit overwhelming? I have been thinking about that lately, I don't recall if air power played so large a role on the battlefield as it does in the game.

Hi neighbor!,

Your just down the road from here! What I can do is PM you, or email what you want, have no problem with that, too bad just finished a turn a few minutes ago, could have taken some SS then. Laurentpsl, more than likely will not get back to me till between 3-5 am, we are approximately 5-6 hours apart.

Allied air is dominating, CP in 1.4.2 cannot compete in the air war, only to a lesser extent. If CP has a level 2 fighter near the western Front with an Ace, I can guarantee that fighter will be vaporized within a turn. All Entente has to do is send a fighter out on a mission to initiate a dogfight, that act now exposes the CP fighter or fighters hexes, the next move by Entente would be to zero in all his airships and bombers onto that exposed hex, Puff! that CP fighter is gone..., same thing if he finds a zeppelin or artillery.

Kirks' changes to the airwar and PP should even this problem out, wait and see in future patch. American units are piling up in Europe, if America had an air force I'd be in even deeper trouble.

Turn 80: Started late taking SS, below pictures will give you an overview starting with turn 80. The objective here is to cut off the Southern Russian Front from a Russian Capital, putting their fairly potent army at half supply, breaking the stalemate or static front. Then the Turks can go in for the kill incurring minimal loses. Going to add this: The half-supply rule should have already taken effect, for some of the Russian units are more than 30 hexes of their Capital, hope this in the manual rule will be enforced in upcoming MP 1.50 Patches.

Turn 85: Started late taking SS, below pictures will give you an overview starting with turn 80. Kovno fort has pin the lynchpin of the Russian defense, backed with Russian bombers and fighters and a couple of artillery units. In this picture the Russians are repositioning away from my artillery (2 German, AH and Bulgarian), without the guns it's extremely hard to do any real damage, combined group artillery attacks is devastating even to the entrenched infantry. The Russian right flank has been holding firm with infantry, his left flank is made up with mostly garrisons, who at this point are not entrenched. Seeing this, got me to maneuver infantry and air craft to pounce on weak units to prep for breakthroughs, at the same time extending my right to turn the corner on his line. surprisingly, just a handful of units have torn open the rear areas of the Russian Southern front, exhausting their efficiency capturing so much territory, killing SGs as they race into the FOW. Been sending units to west expecting a Russian surrender soon. As it happened 12 turns later, can't believe how much effort it took to defeat them.

Turn 85: Started late taking SS, below pictures will give you an overview starting with turn 80. Next turn will disembark ground unit near Russian port, supported by Turk CA, at the very least forcing Russians to react and cutting escape route. Once SGs are at half-supply they can't move. The AH garrison got a lucky break capturing a city going in there blind. Been attacking the Russian right flank, hoping to force the rest of the army to retreat into mountains where they will be brought to a crawl, trenchless, while getting hammered. Hope to finish them off before winter. It'll be a huge morale loss to them and MP loss.

Turn 85 Stats: My MP efficiency has dropped into the orange, that only applies to new recruits, all my units on the map are level 10, so I will do my utmost to save them for the final stages of the match.

Turn 87: Started late taking SS, below pictures will give you an overview starting with turn 80. Don't take this message as being a good sign of surrender! It actually gives the Russians 10 to 30 morale points, Kirk explained it, but I have forgotten how it exactly works out. When you see this message it means the war just got extended, so don't stop pursuing the Russians anytime soon.
