version 1.04

Piercing Fortress Europa is a new game from veteran game designer Frank Hunter, which covers the campaigns of the Western Allies from July, 1943 through the end of April, 1945 in Sicily and Italy. Each area has its own map and time scale to best represent the campaigns for Sicily and Italy and the player is offered complete freedom, limited only by a historical order of battle and logistics model, to plan his operations and explore all of the many “what ifs” that the Italian theater has to offer.

jack, I'm not satisfied with the "fix" for the problem you mentioned but neither did I want to delay 1.04 when I don't have a better solution at the moment.

That's the larger units tied down by a smaller unit? Maybe you could consider a relative size check, perhaps based on actual strength points rather than unit size. This could get complicated of course (if you want to factor in different unit types and terrain types, etc.) but maybe a simple rule where units 3x or 4x the strength of a defending unit are able to negate or reduce its ZOC effect. Just an idea. I agree finding a better solution is tricky.

There is still fun to be had with PFE, it's one of the easier pick up and play games too. The game is playable in its current state, but I've yet to start it up for awhile as I'm waiting for the update.

...looking to get into PFE. is it enjoyable(playable) without the coming patch 1.04?

It was playable and enjoyable upon release. The updates have focused mostly on minor adjustments to enhance the gameplay and fix some minor bugs. The player notes I posted a while back are still applicable; nothing has changed that much. Unlike other wargames, players need to think a little differently about managing their supply lines and the allocations of supply versus fuel. It's a good wargame.
