Getting the Worst of an exchage

Post by PHILLIPD »

I was wondering if anyone can tell what I'm doing wrong...about my tactics. I feel like I should be dishing out more damage (as non WTO Armor) while stationary in a good defensive position like the edge of some woods and inflict less damage to the attacking WTO armor maneuvering and firing on the move. Constantly keeps happening to me, just wondering if anyone has any answers or suggestions of what's happening.

Can you provide more detail, what range were you engaging at? were you using smoke, what were the odds

Generally it would have been usually medium range as soon as the enemy became visible. No, no smoke unless I get desperate and re-task one of my artillery assets (mortars) to provide smoke as cover to break contact. Odds? Greater than 3 to 1, more likely 4 or 5. I just expect more hits on the enemy as usually your accuracy should be better if you are stationary (and I accept that losses are also greater, even if offset by cover), even if the enemy is maneuvering. My strategy is something like; armor or long range anti-armor far forward of whatever I have hold/defend to harass and bleed the enemy, then fallback a little ways and do it again until I reach the final defensive line. Hold and get ready to counterattack, probably from the flanks.

A screen shot or details of which scenario your playing would be helpful.

Accuracy can depend a lot of factors (assuming your using a high end NATO tank with thermal imaging), experience/readiness/morale levels of friendly crews, the terrain enemy units are moving through as well as their experience level.

You may also find your tanks are actually hitting but the shots are not damaging due to ERA on soviet tanks (quite a few are equipped with ERA)

so if your tanks are West German regular M48's coming under heavy arty fire while trying to fire at veteran T80BV with ERA then your not going to hit or damage much (if any), even veteran US M1A1 tank crews in the same situation are not going to do much better.

At what range did the defenders spot the attackers? At what range did the defenders open fire? What is the Training, Readiness, and Ammo levels of the defender?

In short, there is no simple answer. There are a lot of variables that go into combat resolution.
