Netherlands cavalry Division

Forum dedicated to the Scourge of War Game set during the Napoleonic Wars. Scourge of War: Waterloo follows in the footsteps of its American Civil War predecessors and takes the action to one of the most famous battles in history. It is by far the most detailed game about the final battle of the War of the Seventh Coalition.

Yes but you find it tactically split in his tree brigades (1 heavy and 2 lights) in order to be coherent with the structure of other allied cavalry units.

This division had three brigades, Trip (carabiniers), de Ghigny (hussars & light dragoons), and van Merlen (also hussars and light dragoons. de Ghigny is to the east of Mont St Jean Farm, van Merlen is behind and slightly to the right of Somerset's heavy brigade, Trip can be found behind Sandham's battery, near Hougoumont, but I couldn't find any trace of his brigade, nor could I find de Collaert, the division commander, who doesn't appear in the order of battle either. Maybe the developers can clear up the mystery...

In the historical OOB, Uxbridge commands all of the Anglo-Dutch cavalry as a corps commander {level 3}. Under this are the division level formation called brigades {level 4}, e.g. the Union Brigade which contained three brigade echelon formations called Regiments {level 5} (1st, 2nd and 6th Regiments of Dragoons), each of which has 3 squadrons (fighting units level 6). The Dutch Cavalry division consisted of the 3 brigades listed in the previous post. In the game OOB they are simply additional Brigades under command of Uxbridge as was historically correct. If we included the Dutch division CO, he could only have been at the corps level and therefore his troops would not have been under the command of Uxbridge. The imperfect solution was to keep the three brigades of Dutch cavalry under Uxbridge and omit de Collaert who just did not fit into the echelon structure of our files.

Thanks Jim, I guessed it might be something like that. But where is the Dutch-Belgian heavy brigade?

Had to go look at the files. They are in the historical base OOB file but are not in the full army scenario. Will have to check with the scenario designer to see if this was intentional or just a copy/paste error. Good catch.

This will be fixed in the next patch. Trip van Zoudtlandt's heavy cavalry will get the attention they deserve.. :)
