Can't play PBEM++

Thought I would try PBEM. I've never tried it before with FCRS. When I try to log in to slitherine PBEM I get this error all the time:

This is a non-steam version. Any ideas?

The sticky fix for logging in doesn't work. I can get as far as it accepting my ID and trying to log in, but then it comes up with this not enough data message.

Phoenix, do you have an existing Slitherine PBEM++ account setup? If not you need one. It is different from the Matrix login info. Hope that helps you out.

Thanks Capn. But I set that account up using the facility to do that within the game. And, in fact, I did manage to get through to the PBEM lobby once, but only once. I started my moves, sent them. Then when I tried to get back in, the screen above is all I get. I thought it might be something local to my machine, but I see that this same error message has occurred in the past - not enough data transferred, message incomplete. So maybe not. Can't play PBEM, anyway.

For what it's worth, I can play PBEM if I uninstall and go back to version 209beta. But only by virtue of something in the connection interface there that connects me as 'fprsdev3' or 'fprsdev2'.....

Not sure what that's about (I guess it's because its a beta and there's some debug facility in there), but it does show that I can get a connect no probs into the lobby, just not with my ID

I have issues too. My file uploads then there is some onscreen error.

I also can't play PBEM++ on matrix version with 2.0.10 patch and classic scenario. I press the "Send" button and show the "Saving game" message, but nothing happens after that. The Game in Progress screen shows that it's still my turn

I hope someone will get to look at PBEM access at some point. I would like to play PBEM, but can't.

Phoenix, we are aware of the issue and it is on the priority list to solve and we will be working Matrix and Slitherine to figure out and correct the problem.

If you or Alex1812 or anyone else who is having this PBEM++ problem could try a standard PBEM via email to rule out file or exe as the cause would help us pin down the cause quicker.

We are also interested in knowing if PBEM++ works with just Red Storm and the 2.0.10 update. No DLC loaded.

Thanks for the reports and patience while we track down these problems.

I will test my issue by installing to 1.08, then 1.10, if I can get the FTP to work for me.

OK. Didn't take long. I did a clean install to version 1.09 and got the same error message when I try to log in to PBEM++. It says my version is good when I verify it, but then when I try to connect I get this message:

I then did a clean install to version 10. Same message.

The uninstall isn't clean, I should add. Because you have to use windows 'Uninstall a Program' to uninstall and the only entry on the list is for FCRS. Reforged doesn't appear in the list, so I can't wipe clean whatever was installed with Reforged. And things were installed because when I go to install Reforged again then I don't have to enter the serial number, it's already there. because the install put something in the registry, obviously, and wiping FCRS doesn't get rid of that.

Tested classic PBEM by myself. (Made the moves, saved the file, then opened it myself.) Works fine.

It's just a PBEM++ problem.

This problem - with this error message has occurred before in the history of the game, Capn, because when I searched for it I found various suggestions for fixes, none of which work.

That is part of our confusion too. We had a similar (can't say it's the same since the error message is generic) problem in the past and resolved it. It is more confusing since we had beta testing with folks using the PBEM++ system to check out some other bug fixes and did not have this problem. We are working on this and we are getting together with Matrix folks to dig into this and other odd bugs that popped up with the update and DLC.

Phoenix, Thanks for letting us know. We have been chatting with Matrix and Slitherine techs on the ++ issues and we will be looking at possible causes this evening based on their feedback. Hopefully closing down on the problem.

PBEM++ behaves by the same way like Alex described in post 7.

Besides that I have the same issue with login to PBEM++ server what I have with version 2.0.8 an 2.0.9. As I try to login this message appears: "This serial number appears to be registered to another user. Is you user name correct?" Than I have to click on "Create Slitherin PBEM++ Account" than click "Cancel" then click "Log in" and all work fine. It is not big problem but it is annoying that this bug exists already in the third version of the game

... I have steam version that was migrated from matrix version

Pekische, we understand the frustration as well and we are looking at both login and transmission of data items with Slitherine technicians to resolve these problems. I will pass along this particular issue of the serial number to them and see what information we can get on why that message and problem exists.

I have that issue too, Pekische - with having to cancel out each time etc for it to recognise that I am the rightful owner! But after I get that far I can get no further. I guess it's a problem with Slitherine's server, not a FCRS issue.

We are looking at our code as well to make sure the right information is being sent in the right order and format as well as additional checks for time out and data send retrys. The next few days we will be focused on code changes and testing. The goal is to get a more robust interaction between our code and their servers. Hope that make sense. [8D]

Do you have the Matrix version of the game? What version shows up on the main menu screen? There appears to be the wrong version of the exe in the Matrix 2.0.10b update that reverts back to the original 2.0.10. We are looking into this so please let us know what game version you see.

This issue does not appear to be the case for the Steam version that should show 2.0.10bs.
