VonWar in Forward Russia

little music while you read

Well, I have given this game as much as I can so far. At least on the bad side of things.

So what I thought is a showdown on how to encircle, how to maximize your gains and how to get past the mass red walls..at least see if I can do it. I went with Hitler Know's Best(god what a destruction of a childhood sitcom) but regardless. Got good rolls on all my Oil Dice decisions... Then began to set out to destroy the Russian Mega Army.

Goal here is to avoid weariness, rest a lot when I need to but pocket and push as deep and as far as possible. Cut rails and hit hard and hit fast ... Get past the beyond Minsk Pocket and get into Kiev as close to Leningrad as fast as possible so when I'm ordered to take two wild cities I can do it at the end of Scenario. I will succeed... Failure is not an option. So Pockets, instead of frontline battles. Easier to kill tired troops, and use the flexibility of my Panzers...

No Air, All Panzers with Focus, all artillery out ...

Turn 2, past the front line rail run.. forget Kaunas surround it and it looks like this has paid off. I went to get to Riga as fast as possible to get that rail gun on the mark before I lose my friendly Rail General.. He's a waste of PPs otherwise..and waiting 3 weeks to get a rail gun again somewhere juicy like Odessa just doesn't thrill me...

Ignore the front line here, ignore the Infantry, go Panzer... rest the weary boys on Foot and Horse until we need them to finish off the Red Scourge

Traditionally the Center is my weakest link. So I am going to try to push like a mad raven past Minsk and perhaps lay a FSB down in Vilnius or elsewhere run trucks awhile to break the Polotsk/Vitebsk pockets before they form with 50 divisions and forts/rivers/and terrible transport. At least one good thing I have Hitler in my pocket so I can use him to move AGN Panzers to attempt to flank here if I need to. So I think I may Drive North with my Panzers depending on what I can encircle before hand. More focused on resting my men and not driving them hard on the way to Minsk to I don't lose time to rest and refit.

Okay the boring front, until I'm ordered to move my Panzers down here but I get a freebie with armor on loan to Romanian and capture my first city without a fight. Plus I move my men into position to create a Romanian Pocket... Hmm, this is juicy, but I won't come back here till it gets fun.. Hopefully I get 7-8 freebie kills and Finland is the same, 3 or 4 dead Russian Divisions at best and a lot of attacks... Just don't care in these two off fronts, burn as much Red Strength up as I can to sap them from moving to other fronts(especially Smolensk) and the Center... BTW: Normal AI, Slow AI, Historical and the AI will not get ahead of me this time if it does I will pull some hair out and go Leeb on you all. That or defect XP to the Reds

Tried the same trick with Minsk and although it had no units listed(FOW) I still had to try for a freebie, 2 HQs and a Large Garrison) oopsies but that would have been nice ... regardless Panzers Roll fast in Middle Russia..I don't want this to be a retake of LOTR Filming, mud and weariness..Must try to move FAST

My overextended lines invited the AI to counterattack on several fronts. Taking over where my rail gun is supposed to deploy...apparently this doesn't change anything about relocating a rail gun and I will need that hex near Minsk back... I did not get quite the larger scale pocket in the South I wanted. But this will have to do for now......

I opened up the road to Smolensk after the AI packed Minsk with a bunch of infantry divisions. This I thought was a perfect opportunity. I just have to pray my pockets and Panzers hold and I can bring up my infantry in time to make good ... If so I may shoot for Moscow... I simply love to go all the way XP

As said my Pocket of Minsk gets a reversal. My rail gun now deployed with only a garrison and Frantic Red Army Troops running for the fortifications behind the Rivers... This is the time, key... to cut them off and devour them. Now let's see if the fuel holds do just exactly that

Mud, has conspired on all fronts... locked down an encirclement of 5 Fresh Russian Infantry North of Polotsk... This could push me back and I cannot bring up my infantry that have been finishing off the pockets of resistance. Huge scale Russian incursion into the Pripyets... we wait for fuel and good weather

Aggressive and bold moves. Just curious what difficulty settings are you playing with?

Just Normal, I wouldn't dare to try above this with the AI. The options within the game also influence the difficulty. I put Historical, not Geneva and this costs more PPs and causes relationship issues. Also, no cheat buttons. I figure that anyone can reach their objectives with endless fuel and trucks. (though if you're having trouble I could see a limited use of such) Going with Hitler's Plan(which I have done for the PG movement) I feel makes the game a bit easier.

The Russians are trying to cut my Minsk Line ... I have to hold the line and my Posture is still Blitzkrieg and changing now(having not thought of it a turn ahead will not do, it leaves your pants down) I am hoping this line holds and no resources need to be diverted to keep the fuel to the front line.

This turn gave the AI time to slip more into this pocket under cover of darkness... AGC is too far away to support a counterattack but fuel should come in a turn and supply in large quantity to possibly prevent any cuts in my supply lines. I DO not want anymore delays!
