Post by demyansk »

I received my first 386 IBM Compatible in 1991 and this was the first game I had using the 5 1/4" disks. Man, I loved this game. Any of you guys ever play this with an emulator?

Any games that would be similar? I notice steel armor blaze of war on sale

I remember it well, a somewhat cutting edge game in 1991 (released in 1989), I didn't play it too much however. Its great to be able to play these classics now with emulators! [:)] MicroProse (thank you Sid Meier and company) was a developer/publisher that whatever they produced I would buy...gladly! [8D]

Never had that game but the 8 bit sound effects bring back memories of other games from that era.

Never played it myself, but I recall my brother spending a lot of time on it.

I wish they'd make a Steel Beasts Pro PE whatever for WW2 tank warfare.

The 1999 game Panzer Elite spiced up with some mods is still the best WW2 tank game in my opinion.

P.S. Not to be confused with the horrible "Panzer Elite Action" games.

I played the heck out of M1 Tank Platoon II, not the first one though. I really enjoyed the second one.

I also was playing Armored Fist 3 and Panzer Elite Special Edition around the same time. All good fun games.

Bought it in 2011. One of the last several retro-games I bought. Not much time later I became unnecessary and I got to stressed out to continue the retro-gaming hobby. Can't enjoy subtle pleasures like this any more[:(].

Yes I played it a lot. Loved the music.
Imagine it was re-released with modern graphics and refinements......

I play Combat Mission Shock Force nowadays to get my kicks

I agree with you guys, I have a hard time playing the old games. I have all the combat mission games but I didn't like Red Thunder to much. I really enjoyed the first Combat Mission.

I play Panzer Corps all the time

Fun game on the amiga...

I sure do miss microprose. For my money, they had the best games. Loved pirates of course, but also games like darklands, civilization, crudade in europe, decision in the desert, fields of glory, moo, railroad tycoon and xcom...

Good stuff

Find out where MicroProse devs are now and check out their games. Sid Meier is at Firaxis and he has remade his classic games, some of them several times over. Of course he has made some new games too.

Yes, Microprose also had the best boxes for the games. Those things could withstand a hurricane. I wish I had kept them instead of selling them years ago on ebay

Yeah, they just aren't the same.

They seem more 'dumbed down' for lack of a better description, at least to me. I've loaded up darklands using doxbox and it's still a great game some 20+ years later.

How about Panzer Elite? Not that arcady game, but I think it's called Panzer Elite Special edition? At least that's the one I have. Also, on an obvious note, they did (re?)release M4 Tank Brigade on steam recently. Then there's Across the Rhine.

For more modern stuff, you could always try Steel Beasts Pro PE or indeed Steel Blaze.
