Very old scenario-is it retrievable?

Post by Foxendown »

I wonder if anyone knows whether there is any way of recovering a very old scenario that I put together during the beta test. It was simply a copy of one of the "monster" Harpoon scenarios called "The Surge" so I can claim no credit for the design, just the conversion work which I never quite finished.

When I try to load it of course I get the message about it being built in a previous database version (I seem to remember that used to tell you which db you needed but it doesn't now). However I have copies of all the old dbs so I was able to give it a try (btw if I am breaking any rules by keeping this old stuff I will happily delete it all). The result was that I broke Command and had to re-install from scratch, not good! So is there a safe way I can reconstitute the scenario, it was a massive opus involving 100s of platforms, but if it's irretrievably lost so be it.

I'll give it a shot. No guarantees though. Please post the scenario file.

Thanks!

Thanks Mike, much appreciated, here it is. It was very much WIP and unplayable but if you can get it back I will finish and post it.

Foxendown,

Looks it uses data base DB3000 Build 391. I was able to load it using CMANO v1.11 SR5 - Build 847.1 and it started to run with no problems other than nine area validation errors. Definitely seems to be readily fixable.

Many thanks indeed Wayne, so glad you got it to load. So is the next step for Mike or you to save it it under the new DB and re-post or is it more complicated than that?

Yeah bunch of stuff.

Ok updated scenario uploaded but you've got some work to do:)

Canadian F/A-18's need to be reloaded as do most the of the KA-27's due to a load out change. You've got a bunch of zone validation errors which means you've got hourglass zones instead of squares. You can fix that by moving the appropriate reference points. You'll also have to repopulate air base magazines.

In the future use the ini file feature to capture any custom edits and magazines you've filled and this becomes a one click thing.

Thanks!

Mike

Foxendown,

I updated The Surge to Database DB3000 Database Build 446 in CMANO v1.11 SR5 - Build 847.1 and once again the scenario ran fine. In addition to the nine area validation errors, here are the unit changes that Mike is references.

Thanks Wayne that's helpful, now the least I can do is finish the scenario off and post it for testing. I can see that besides the errors already apparent there are quite a few other flaws on the mission planning front (I will probably delete all the existing missions and start again). At the time I seem to remember my motive was to try out Command with a large number of units and mission designs was secondary.
