Paratroop drop procedure Help please

Post by Rufus T. Firefly »

Frustrated and confused here (not far from my normal state). What is the correct procedure for air dropping paratroop units behind enemy lines? Game thinks I am trying to drop air supply, which of course it doesn't allow in enemy controlled hexes.

BTW I am still (for reasons) playing on version 1.06.27 if that matters.

Thanks for your help! [&o]
Rufus T. Firefly: Do you realize our army is facing disastrous defeat? What do you intend to do about it?
Chicolini: I've done it already. I've changed to the other side.
Firefly: What are you doing over here?
Chicolini: Well, the food is better

I also find the paradrop procedure immensely frustrating if it is not downright buggy. Even now I find it takes many attempts. My first mistakes were
-Trying to paradrop the 22nd Airlanding brigades. It was only from history reading that I found out it was not able to paradrop and as Axis you have to wait for the arrival of a flieger division.
-Making sure the para units have MPs
-Breaking down the division into brigades/regts as they can only be paradropped seperately and not as a division
-Reversing the use of right click and left click
-Trying to use level bombers that have already flown a mission, I have only ever succeeded with Transports on their first mission on an airbase that has not moved anyway
Even then it seems to get "locked" in to remaining committed to only doing air supplies, which you can see from the colour scheme and drop symbols on the airbase and\or landing site. The only way I can get out of the loop is closing down the game, opening it up again, putting move mode on, selecting the relevant units, changing the mode and then only clicking the drop site. One step wrong and it will not work and even then it takes several attempts. Frustrating and I am glad that it is a rare part of the game.

I do not know if this helps?

One alternative which I use which you might consider is airlanding security divisions. That is transporting them from an airbase in your rear to an airbase way out front. You can send up an empty airbase along with your panzer divisions as they are motorised. Air transporting a security division takes as much transport capacity as a combat regiment, and a combat unit will loose its heavy equipment and be reduced badly anyway. The security division is hardly combat ready but it will exert a ZOC and convert hexes to friendly control which is what you need in your early Panzer pincers. And airlanding a unit to another airbase is much less frustrating.
