Allied ARR 1939 Campain

Post by sapper32 »

Happy New Year Gents, Ive got a bit of time on my hands so will post some pics and reports on my first Allies campain, Ive played SC2 and a while back SC although only a couple of times so ive got an idea of how this will play.
Im going to start my AAR from early 1941 so will recap what has gone on so far and the basic losses suffered on both sides.
The Polish campain went well for me i basically went for a quick fall back and defend Warsaw while trying to cost the Germans a few Points here and there, The Poles managed to hold off the Germans until mid November inflicting a few casualties on his infantry corps although his Panzers didnt realy suffer to much.
I set the French to be controled by the AI although i let the Royal navy control the French fleet, I sent the BEF to France but held them back from the front line ready for a quick Dunkirk. The AI did a reasonable job of setting up a defence of France although it left a few gaps that i had to plug back up at the start of the Allied turns.
The Germans attacked in march quickly taking Holland and then Belgium while the French Army held the Germans off for a while, combined allied airpower and naval gunfire support enabled the French army to destroy a Panzer unit and a tactical bomber was also destroyed. Paris was captured in july and France surrenderd Vichy France was formed.
In the naval war wolf packs continue to haras allied shipping while RN submarines interdict Axis routes.
The Royal navy heavy units clashed with the Kreigs Marine losses were one RN CL Sqn lost and damage to a DD flotilla and a BB Sqn limped back to port while the Axis Losses were one CA Sqn lost one BC Sharnhorst heavily damaged and two wolf packs heavily damaged but escaped.

Jumping forward to 1941 its early March all the Allied nations are teched to the limit as best i can while i try to build a few units here and there.
Italy has invaded Egypt but Wavell has built up a sizable force 3x Armies 3x Corps Arty and AT units plus the 7th Armd Div supported by 5 Air units. Wavell launched operation compass and destroys the Italian 10th Army and moves forward towards the frontier.

The battle of Medjerda is almost forgotten, but was fought against highly disciplined German troops and blasted a route straight to Tunis it was a perfect infiltration battle and should be remembered as the best fought British battle of the war.

The Germans have declared war on Yugoslavia and it looks like they will help out the Italians who have invaded Greece but have not realy made any sort of advance, Im hopfull that i can send some British and Commonwealth units to aid the Greeks the British 1st Corps has already arrived in Greece and will be followed by the Canadian corps that is speeding its way across the Atlantic, If the DAK does not appear in North Africa i will reinforce the Greek expedition with additional ground units and some airpower.

Barbarossa begins, The Germans have crossed the frontier from occupied eastern Poland (this puts the Germans start line very close to major Soviet cities) Im putting as much MMP into upgrades as i can and have built quite a lot of Corps to try to slow the Axis down, Stavka hopes that some of the frontier units will die hard and give my defence lines time to build and dig in.

Here is the situation in southern Russia, It looks like most of my frontier units will get smashed but hope that i will have time to try to defend the Dnepr river line to start with, The Crimean front will be reinforced as soon as possible.

I've decided to put a halt to this campaign as after playing on for a few more turns it obvious that the Axis have no chance in the USSR also I've stopped the Axis in NA as my 8th Army has destroyed 2 x PZR Gruppe and most of the DAK units and the Italians have had a beating the AI also had 3 PZR Gruppe in Greece so I'm guessing half of the Axis PZR units haven't taken part in Barbarosa

Well then Gents ive decided to continue with this AAR although ive restarted the game with the Axis on plus 20% MMP and an advantage in spotting and experiance, Im going to pick up the game in late 1941 the Axis have defeated France and the Low countries and have also defeated Yugoslavia and Greece while starting Barbarossa in June 41, The German Panzers are at level 2 and the Luftwaffe is at advanced aircraft lvl4 , Ive put my aircraft tech into top gear GB/US and USSR are all on Tanks lvl2 and Advanced aircraft lvl2 so i need to catch up.

So here is the situation in the Leningrad area the Axis have overrun my frontier units but ive had enough time to put together a bit of a defence line to protect Leningrad, Ive spent MMP on 2 Hvy Tank units so hope to battle it out with the Panzers.

Moscow Front has had the engineers building defences as fast as possible i should maybe have spent MMP on a second engineer unit, Moscow will be defended at all costs i was disappointed to lose Smolensk last turn but the Germans smashed thrugh my defence and are approaching Moscow.

The Southern front has seen the Axis overun my frontier units and then surge east and south smashing through what i thought was a decent defence line along the Dneiper bend, As you can see from the picture ive had to form a defence near the Don river and am defending Sebastopol, This sector will see lots of new units over the comming turns

The North African theatre has seen lots of action ive basicaly built up the 8th Army in Egypt and built a defence line at El Alamain, The DAK and Italians attacked but were defeated and driven back by a combination of Tank Infantry and Air power as you can see in the pic the Italians are surrounded in Bardia and Tobruk while most of the DAK have been destroyed, On a less posative note part of my Med fleet stumbled into the Italian fleet and i lost Warsite, Valiant malaya and Ark Royal whilst the RM lost a CL and SUB not good but now the US has joined the Allies ive sent heavy units of the Royal Navy to the Med via the cape as Gibralter has fallen to the Spanish

On the southern front local counter attacks are made by Soviet mobile forces
the Axis Panzer units are badly depleted and will need to repair next turn this
will give the Soviets time to build up more forces in the south

The North African theatre has the 8th Army destroying the DAK Arty unit and an Italian Corps
The Italian navy bombard British ground units near Bengazi and RAF tac bombers strike back
but the Italian Heavy cruisers slip away. The Med Fleet will be reinforced with the arrival
of HMS Nelson, The Duke Of York and the carrier Illustrious

Both sides rebuild and rest apart from the attacks next to the coast
I will have to send some help to the depleted army protecting the road

Moscow front

The Red airforce is still rebuilding to the east while the Axis try to smash through my defences,
German paratroops have landed behind my lines Red army units are rushed to secure the assault.
There appears to be a large number of Axis Infantry units attacking the Moscow defence line but as
yet no sign of Panzrs
