Movement rate of British armored divisions.

The team behind the award-winning game Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive early days of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris is the first in an innovative series of operational World War II wargames that also include a strategic element. The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris simulates Germany’s military successes in Poland and France in 1939 and 1940 (including also a hypothetical “Sea Lion” invasion of Great Britain).

Movement rate of British armored divisions.

Post by Lascar »

I have noticed that the British 1st and 2nd armored divisions move at the speed of foot and not motorized units. While the British armored brigade moves at the motorized rate. Is this intended or a bug?

It is probably due to losses of transport vehicles.

Vic,

That was the case since the first turn and these units never were engaged in combat. Is there another form of attrition of vehicles not caused by combat?

Here are the relative movement details of the British 1st armored brigade and the 1st armored division:

1st armored brigade

Weight Carry

Foot 25 0
Motorized 14 28
Tracked 34 0

1st armored division

Foot 36 0
Motorized 14 28
Tracked 60 0

Does the fact that the foot weight exceeds the carry capacity of the motorized by 8 force the whole unit to move at the foot rate? These are the initial states of the units which have not yet been in combat or moved.

The stats you gave me means the 1st Armored Brigade should be motorized while the 1st armoured should move on foot speed.

You are in Sea Lion right? And is this a scenario start or did you get there by the campaign? In the second case the losses might have been caused by carry-over losses from the campaign in France.

I am playing Fall Gelb -- as a stand alone scenario -- with British Commitment variant selected so there are two British armored divisions. Historically, if these divisions had been committed they would have had the full compliment of trucks to allow all divisional components to be equally motorized.

Is there a way to edit these units to add additional trucks so that they move at the motorized rate?

Hi Lascar,

You are right the scenario is not configured properly.
I added it to the to-do list for the next update.

In the meantime you could fix it yourself by:
a. loading fall gelb
b. going into the editor
1. clicking on the unit tab
2. scrolling and clicking on the Brit.Armoured Division unit template
3. Clicking on the Albion Truck SFType component.
4. Click on Qty and changing the current '7' to say '11'
c. Optionally save the scenario.
d. Start play.

This will fix the issue with the lack of motorization.

Sorry for the inconvenience and big thanks for reporting this!

Best wishes,
Vic

I'm glad I was able to point that out and thanks for the good instructions on how to add the additional trucks.

One other thing we have noticed playing the French Campaign is that the French army is missing their AA guns. They won't make a big difference but they would make some difference.
