Immersion and historical correctness

Post by johnsmith1212 »

If the favourite general or the hometown is spelled wrong in a game it is always disturbing the immersion, not only for history fans and wargame grognards.
WoN will be the best Ageod game- an awesome gem, but it still needs some polish. I note all things I encounter an put it up here for discussion and hopefully fixing.
Bold is correction or addition:

General names:
Ivan Mikhailovich Kapzevich (Russian)
Alexander Voinov (Russian)

Regions:
Oranienburg
Annaberg Buchholz
Senftenberg
Tangermünde

Diplomacy screen:
many German rulers including Prussia and Saxony: Friedrich
Mecklenburg (Country name)

Recruitment screen:
picture missing: Mixed Light Cav Bde 1805 (Prussia)

Law screen (F4):
missing name: op_title_unrivalledlogisticFM (1805)

Countries:
Sachsen
Preussen
Österreich

Question:
How is your naming policy? Wouldn't it be best to let the German countries, regions, units, elements and generals have their correct German names for example. Currently it is an mix up of French, English and local naming conventions.

How do you want to handle ü?
General: Blücher
Element: Blucher Husaren
Region: Muelhausen
WoN is using three different solutions, but only ü and ue are correct - very confusing being a German to read this - it should be consistent. Things like Uber (Company) sounds for German just stupid and is grammatically wrong, Über would be right.
If there are some limitations, maybe the best compromise would be ue

Question:
If we propose improved element names, would you implement them? I always refrain from building new unit, because I don't like the generic for example Hussars name, instead Mecklenburg-Strelitz Husaren would be great for example. Ay player I have certain favourite units and I want to follow their path to victory or destruction. I can't do that with English named generic element names when playing Prussia for example.

Graphis:
The graphic style need consistency and improvements, the general pictures vary a lot in quality and many uniforms need to be implemented. There are strange quality differences between the countries - russian generals look okay, but many others are shocking ugly. Why dont you use a unified style liek CWII/RoP for pictures? This whole game is about units and generals - but I can't use some of them because they look horrible like 90% the General of Austria for instance.

General requests:
- please bring back detailed reinforcement screen - the simple version limits players choice very much
- please add history/career information about the generals as you did with the last games, gives much flavour

Idea:
"Adopt a country"
I know you need to feed your families as we all to and therefore you can only invest a certain amount of money in one game. This means it wont be perfect on realease day and some things cant be done 100%.
WoN deserves to be the best Napoleonic strategic wargame ever and I think people want this dream to be real. How to get the ressources needed? Why not using a combined crowdfunding or dlc campaign? Instead of adding new scenarios it would be better to improve the game as a whole. Paradox does this too, and I always cant resist and buy it - perfect addict. Something like:

Adopt [insert your favourite country name here]
- all leaders with iconic pictures and description
- historical uniforms for each element
- enhanced units and elements names list
- flavour historical events
Price Tag: €€€

Berg would be maybe just 2€, but Russian 15€ for instance.

I am sure proud Russians, Saxonians or Swedish are ready to improve their country ingame heritage. So even the Scots can get their correct unit pictures with clan kilts :)
It is just and idea, maybe they are better ways gathering the ressources to achieve the ultimate goal of a perfect game.

I think the biggest problem with Matrix/Ageod/Slitherine games is the FREE update policy,I would be happy to pay for any update that prolongs the lifespan of my favourite games.I'm talking about paying for proper updates maybe new scenarios real game enhancements, not bug fixes!!

Maybe then the game makers might take more pride in their games, before abandoning them before they are the finished article, and moving on to a new project simply because its the only way they can get paid.[:)]
Make it so!
