arty range of one hex and defensive support fire

Post by winkr7 »

If my guns have a range of 1 they can only fire into the next hex right? So if my gun is in T mode and behind a unit attacked by an enemy not adjacent to the arty then it gives no support? but if the attacker is adjacent to my gun and (obviously) adjacent to what it is attacking my gun fires in support?

This is only true of gun units (with an arty dot symbol or the mortar symbol).

Yes, a range of 1 means you can only fire into an adjacent hex.

There are several types of units that can have arty assigned to them, not just the ones you mentioned. This is depending on what equipment the scenario designer assigned units. I find usually that arty is assigned not only to arty/mtr/rckt units, but to HQ units also. If a unit has a range in the unit panel, it has some sort of ranged attack equipment assigned, then you can check the type by going into the unit info menu.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but if you check the Combat Reports you will see what units are supporting combats. After a few turns of monitoring the combat reports, you will know the answer.

"Artillery, HQ, and Air units can only support combats if they pass a Communication Check. Attacks with a large fraction of units failing Communication Checks will take longer to resolve" ... in case you find they dont support.
