Also don't be afraid to check amazon and the "new and used" links. I found a signed!!! copy of Milan Vego's "Soviet Naval Tactics" for $10. Nevermind it took almost 6 weeks to get to me from Sweden, via snail mail.

nice one

i done that too and now have JANES fighting ships in 5 year invtervals from 1945, so 1945, 1950, 1955, 1960 ....
they are great for scen design

what i also find very useful are defence almanacs that have every countries military capabilities listed, i.e. each ship, plane, army unit and equipment for each year. ive collects a few but they are very hard to get

e.g.
The Balance of Military power WORLD DEFENCE ALMANAC, 1990-91, Military technology, vol.XV - Issue 1-1991, ISSN 0722-3226
These were also online so if you can find their web site they had some as you can down load as PDF.s but

cheers

There's a great used book store not far from where I live, where pretty much everything is there is no more than $5, and one time I went there, I got this for $5:

https://www.amazon.com/Aircraft-Institu ... U.S.+Fleet

The most recent visit, I also got this for $1 in the "bargain" [:D] section

https://www.amazon.com/Command-Bluejack ... f+the+seas

Yes used book stores are great places to find some niche stuff.

A lot of those "large format books" go cheap used because they take up valuable space for the retailer. Hence why it is good to look on Amazon and check out the used copies before buying new.

Yeah picked up 1 Jane's book from the 60's,70's and 80's off Amazon for like 40 or something dollars total. It is a good move although beware the cloud of dust and thunder sneeze when first opened.

Yeah, that can be thicker than a destroyer's smokescreen of yesteryear!

Nice find. The best part is that it is inexpensive.
