what we're used to seeing.
But from time to time the game relies on modern visual conventions
that would have seemed odd to someone from the period.
Something like this happens in the lower left-hand corner of the
game map, and I've made a small mod using period art that will
give the game a little bit more turn-of-the-century flavor.

The crown image itself is not modern, but the mod's use of framing
architectural figures is more in keeping with the artistic coventions
of the time (especially Italian ones).

Because getting different images to appear in those two boxes is
surprisingly involved, the mod has been designed for semi-manual
installation.
Download the mod to a safe place and unzip it. You'll see a
folder called Matrix Games, and the mod is deep inside of that.
Copy the mod's Matrix Games folder and paste it to wherever you
have your main Matrix Games folder installed. The mod's folders
mimic the structure of the Matrix Games, so everything should fall
into the right place.
