Huertgen Forest [Rico Scenario]

Post by Big Ivan »

Hi TotH Family!

I installed update 1.1.17 yesterday and decided to play Rico's scenario Huertgen Forest. I took the Americans and need
to capture all 4 objective hexes to win the game. It is the administrative phase of turn 5 and so far I've got only
1 objective with four turns remaining. "Not looking good for the GI's at the moment!"

I'd be doing better if my M4A3 tank MA would not malfunction. Also the German 81mm mortar keeps dropping smoke on my
M4A3 105mm which hurts my chances of breaking the mortar crew. I've cleared the approaches to the town of 2nd line
German infantry but now I'm starting to run into 1st Line and FJ German infantry forces as you can see.

Maybe I can pull this out, we'll see. Prospects don't look good.

Rico: Good scenario my friend! Lots of possibilities giving the player much to consider!

Peter a side note; The 1.1.17 seems to be playing well with the new LOS Quality set to "Fine"

Well TotH Family finished this one up.

The Americans took a minor loss only able to achieve capturing one of the four victory hexes.
All the American armor was destroyed.
One of the German Tiger's took out the M4A3(75) and M4(105).
The M4A3(76) was taken out by a hidden panzerschreck in a side shot.
The M18 Hellcat was taken out by the German PAK-40 ATG.

The FJ's and some panzer grenadiers plus German assault engineers about turn 5 hit the American right flank throwing it in disarray.
They were going for the objective hex there is my guess. I spent the second half of the scenario just trying to defend the one victory hex I had.

The American left flank moved towards the town and got bogged down in street fighting. The German mortar was especially effective laying down smoke rounds against
the M4(105) as it moved up the center road. The M4A3(75) main armament broke for at least 3 turns so the German mortar crew lived. With the MA broke only the tank machine guns remained
which are quite useless to say the least unless you get a target moving in the open or point blank. By the time the MA came back the Tiger was there and finished off the
M4A3 and much to my chagrin the M4(105) in smoke no less!

In the final analysis a good scenario to play Rico. I had a lot of fun with it, thank you![:D]

Off to the "Bay of Pigs" now...[8D]

Peter: The new LOS Quality set to "Fine" didn't hurt game performance at least in this trial. The game played
pretty well with decent speed all the time. I do run Razer Cortex and have all sound and game enhancements on,
so with all that added, the CPU usage is probably high. But with the new 1.1.17 game performance did not suffer.[:)]
