Newbie Questions

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Newbie Questions

Post by David Hansen »

Just started my very first campaign...1939...Intermediate level...Axis.

It's Oct 6, 1939 and Poland has fallen to the Axis.

1. Which is a better option...spend 525 mpp on purchase of Manstein HQ...or 575 mpp on having two research chits in advanced tanks, infantry weapons and ground attack weapons? (total mpp available=642)

2. The forced march option to get troops from Poland to the Western Front drops morale a lot. If I do the forced march option, does the morale improve in some fashion before I begin my attacks vs. France/Low Countries? Or is it better to spend...say 200-225 mpp on the transport option...morale vs. mpp?

TXS for any advice, as still learning the basics.

1. Research has first priority, you don`t want your troops performing worse than the enemy. Intelligence at first of course. My priorities: first the front, reinforcements, overstrength (during winter), research, buy units. I`d also buy a maritime bomber before France, you won`t need much more.

2. If you force march before reinforcing or upgraging, there's easily enough time to recover morale.

another research question...
1939 campaign, start as germans, the game has already chosen advanced subs as a research topic. yet it can still be clicked and another 150 points invested into it. if i chose to click that on turn 2 of the game and spend 150 points into advanced subs, which is again already currently being researched, does that queue a point for after this research is done or does it help speed up the research already being researched?

Both. It speeds the research while two chits are invested. When the next level is reached, one research chit is eliminated but the research continues with just one chit (until another 150 MPP is invested to increase the rate again and so on).

A few other research concepts - All in the manual

"catch up" - if your opponent has a higher level of research your research rate will be increased - ex: Germans have lv 2 infantry Allies lv 1 the Allies (Brits/US/SU) infantry research will be faster

"sharing" - same as catch up above except your Allies (your Allies not THE Allies) ; ex: German have lv 2 infantry Italy lv 1 Italy infantry research will be faster

"Spying & Intelligence" Research also increases the research speed if you have a higher level of S&I than you enemies - its fairly complicated there are a few posts on it in here somewhere

mobility is pretty great for ground units but very, very expensive for headquarters. is there an advantage (other than assisting the headquarters to move faster to maybe keep up with an advance) to upgrading mobility on a headquarters unit?

without spain is there any viable approach for taking gibraltar? ive surrounded it with italian and german BB and am pounding the heck out of it but it seems that i am losing the overall exchange and my troops in the region are becoming weaker and the balance of power in the attacks is slowly shifting to favor the british defense garrison.

Sure. Take Algeria, eliminate the garrison by bombers, drop a para.

id considered that but was loath to send the german bombers there because they are so needed elsewhere and the time required to get them there and back. but i will definitely re-think that now.

thank you for the suggestions and help :)
