Returning player from many moons ago install issues

Post by mg62 »

I'm a returning player from many years ago. Downloaded the game and I'm pretty sure I am not doing the switches correctly. Also I'm getting the can't find PW data (tried searching for beta2 folder and it is not on my machine).

My autorun.inf in notepad looks like this:

[AutoRun]
OPEN=autorun.exe -f -px1920 –py1080 -wd –altFont –cpu2 –multiaudio –dd_sw
ICON=WITPAE.ico

Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to put switches in Game shortcut Properties, on your Desktop, not in file. They work with game exe, not autorun.

Autorun.exe is for the menu that includes game, editor, updates and manual. Switches do not work with it.

Here is the path on my game shortcut:

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -archive -deepColor -px1680 -py1050 -w -fixedArt -skipVideo -multiaudio -SingleCpuOrders -cpu3
Everything within the quotes is where your game shortcut should be pointing. Everything after that is the switches I have chosen to work with my system.

Once you create a shortcut that points to the War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe file, move it to the desktop and right click on the icon to bring up the Properties display. Put the switches in the "Target" box. Don't worry about running out of space in the box, everything will scroll out behind the ends of the visible box.

Thanks, I understand my issue with the switches.

Still getting the PW data error. I downloaded the update from the forum and copied the file from Beta2 into the main directory. No change with the error.

Suggestions?

PW data error is because error in installation. Patch won't fix it. Try installing once again from scratch. If nothing help, try installing game in default folder.

Simply copying or moving a download does not install it. You have to run the program which needs to unpack condensed data and put it in the right places. And you must start with the base program (dated 2009) installation and then download and install the update(s).
Do not try other enhancements like different maps until you get the game running well.

Thanks. I uninstalled everything; then reinstalled all from the initial base game.

Game runs. Need to see what are the best switches for my machine, going through this now.

You will never be a competent player as long as you have that distracting riveter on your screen. Get rid of her .....

In addition to the above. If you haven't already, you need to load the latest 'official' patch before the beta.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I just tried installing on a Yoga 720 (1080 display). I set the switches -px1920 -py1080 and the display seems to be shifted down and to the right. I don't see the entire game options box and when a game is started I'm only viewing part of the map. Really weird and I don't remember this happening before. In fairness this is the first time I've run it on Windows 10. I tried changing the compatability mode to xp but that didn't help

NVM - fixed it. Set it to run as administrator seems to have fixed it.
