PBEM system hung

Post by kennonlightfoot »

Tried to play a PBEM game with Yogi the Great. First two turns worked but game hung on my move on Turn 3.
My game says its up to date. Waiting to see if Yogi will confirm his is current.

Does technical support still exists for this game?

but pbem is net dependent, so most of the time the error is at the users end or local loop issue, as without any logs to see what's happening, it's hard to really say what is or could be the issue

While it's been some time since I have played this game pbem I can tell you that in the past on some occasions it would fail as I was sending (pressed end turn) and I would have to play the turn again. On A few times more than once. So if you did not get the message after ending your turn that the game uploaded properly try to play again. On my end it says turn 3 and that it is now your turn. [:)]

there is only one report of a failed turn not working last night, and that was for panzer corps, no other issue have been reported, so maybe a local loop issue, as none reported server side atm

Tech support said they rolled the game back so I think its is your turn again.
If this try fails its probably a dead game.

Dead again on Turn 5. Think we just going to have to hang this one up. I doubt they will do anything to fix it and having have them reload the previous turn every other turn is going make thing pretty slow. At least for PBEM this is a dead game.

if both pc's are running the game as admin and the game has been installed, as right click install as admin so the correct permissions have been given and nothing is running the background of both pc's, still no one else is reporting any errors server side, so maybe this is just a fluke and also a local loops issue, without logs of the error, it's hard to really say one way or the other is it's program side or not, but any logs or windows logs may help if you have them, and sorry for the bad luck guys

Ok but I was usually able to just play the turn over - if when you look at it, if it says it's your turn - give it a try. A few times I had to do that twice in the past. The problem comes when your computer is after hitting end turn is trying to upload the game. I always felt too that if I took a long time to make the move, it was more likely to have the problem.

Afraid it is not a simple problem. Right now everything points to your end. I haven't had to replay a turn. I just can't down load turns you have uploaded even though the PBEM box says it is my turn. It attempts to down load then fails with no error messages. If you have Matrix admin roll back your move and redo it seems to work for that turn but then fails again on the next.

Isn't an install problem unless my checking for updates using their button somehow corrupted something. Otherwise it is the same game install of 1.06 I used back when there were still players in 2016.

The fact that their rolling back your move indicates something is corrupting things during game execution or upload. I don't see much chance it is something we are doing or have done causing it. I doubt they will assign someone to look at the files to see what is happening and I am not particularly motivated to spend a lot of time trying to debug it for them since they probably won't do anything if I managed to isolate the cause.

If there were ongoing development on their part to put out new scenarios, etc. it would be worth while to try to get it working. But I think this is an "orphan" game left out there mostly to see if anyone will buy it not knowing that it is a dead end.

It is a shame since I consider it one of the best simulations of the Civil War on the regimental level. Apparently, the unfamiliar interface put off people and the lack of being able to see your battle in replay undid it.

Ok thanks for trying. My shows turn 5 your turn. I have gotten the successful update message when I end turn every time. Of course if I do try to call up the turn I get the it's not your turn message. [:)]

I should be able to Resign the game when enough time passes to clear it from the board.

Ooops I guess I can't resign it it gives the message that you can only resign on your own turn and since mine says it's your turn I'm out of luck. Sounds like you may have the same problem.
