Is it possible to play individual nations as well?

Is it possible to play individual nations as well?

I would like to play only Russia or Italy is that possible or do I have to take the complete axis or the allies? Thanks for any help.

Yes, before you start a new game or load a saved game in the options menu there is a selection box where you can toggle individual nations between AI or human control. It's a great feature.
