AXIS ONLY - Counter Factual Global War
This is the thread for warspite1 and WILHELM_Slith to discuss nefarious plans, devise evil schemes and do what the naughty Axis generally do.

WILHELM can you let me know what type of action the Japanese wish to take - I assume no aligning of Siam this early?
I will send you the game now. Not sure how you want to do this but I think the easiest thing would be for you to give me orders up to Japanese Land movement (assuming you do a Land) then I will pass the updated game to you for actioning of Japanese movement.
Return naval bomber to stack with 1-4 inf div. other bomber to Taiuan and other to Kaifeng city please.
No rail move. 18th inf moves west towards city Yenan. 12th inf moves south towards HQ Mao. HQ Yamamoto moves west along the railroad. Thats it for this impuls. No combat. No rebase or reorganisation.

How do you want to split the turn?
I'll roll for the weather now and then we can decide on actions?

Also - how much co-operation and discussion of strategy are you happy with? I am considering an attack on Nice.....

RE: AXIS ONLY - Counter Factual Global War
Attacking Nice is often a risky attack. But even more so with the 2d10 table. So I recommend against it until you feel secure in using the 2d10 table.
2d10 table risks with attacking Nice are among these.
- Extra loss for attacking into mountains. Many results yield two losses to the attacker. And some even gives three losses to the attacker. For example the dreaded result '14' has gotten many attackers going prematurely bald. And to avoid '14' you must have an attack of +13 or higher and I doubt that Italy can even get close to that.
- If Italy has some expensive armoured unit included in the attack but no cheap motorized unit, and the defender calls a blitz attack and then the Italian first loss must be either motorized or panzer. Players have been known to lose a HQA in that way. Remember that it doesn't matter who calls the table, as soon as it is the blitz table the first loss rule apply. And if the defender calls it you either should have no ARM, or MECH, or you chould have a cheap MOT Div included.

I think it worth the risk. Of course it may well prove to be the dumbest move in history but then I'm full of those....

RE: AXIS ONLY - Counter Factual Global War
Advantage of attacking Nice is adding Shore Bombardment
Disadvantage is city hex, -1 to 2d10 unless HQ attacks. But assault table must be used; blitz loss not an issue but also all attackers might get X’d on Assault anyway.
Advantage of one hex north is that is impossible for French to contain successful attack.
Surprise impulse w/double air or ART is best (only, really) time for an all-Italian attack. Hiwever Doubling ART means it is bombarding = can’t be taken as loss on CRT.
Best possible is Balbo HQ (+1.5 to dice w/HQ support) + 5 MOT + 3-2 ART. Big risk (esp, w/HQ-A; not recommended) big reward. Very, very helpful if Axis plan is to attack Spain later.
The Romans wrote the phrase “Fortune favors the bold.”

To be honest I wasn't looking at all the various modifiers of the 2D10 table - its still all a bit confusing to be honest and I didn't realise I could lose 3 units....
Ho hum its done now - for better or worse.

EuroAxis orders:
Two attacks - Lodz and Nice
Full shore bombardment
Attacking HQ Support from Graziani
No HQ Support from von Rundstedt
A Dornier Do-17M brings ground support (and flies back east of Berlin)
Air rebase - fighters move to the furthest west they can. Italian fighter to Turin

RE: AXIS ONLY - Counter Factual Global War
Orm, I think you are correct about defender can call Blitz in a city. There is a Ghost of WiF Rules Past that trips me up on that which read “Assault table must be used” in regards to city hexes.
It can be a very good play for the Chinese to let the Japanese build up for a big attack on a city and then call the blitz table to try and save the units. Japan will usually have already used up lots of air, artillery, and HQ Support by then and can’t always exploit the likely win in the land combat.

Do the Italians use their planes for a +6 ground support?
